Buccaneers vs. Texans Prediction

The Tampa Bay BuccaneersΒ (1-0) and the Houston Texans (0-1) are ready to do battle on Monday night in a showdown of teams hoping to make a postseason run in 2025 in this Buccaneers vs. Texans prediction. Tampa Bay opened up with a strong 23-20 win on the road against the Falcons, winning outright as 1.5-point underdogs. Houston fell on the road against the Rams, going down 14-9 as just 3.5-point underdogs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 EST and can be found on ABC. See below for our Buccaneers vs. Texas prediction, and keep up with all of our best Free NFL Picks.

Tampa Bay Starts Strong

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made the playoffs last season before going down to the Commanders and the red hot rookie Jayden Daniels. Tampa still has Baker Mayfield as a confident veteran quarterback, and they already grabbed a strong divisional win in their opener on the road against the Falcons. In that game, the Buccaneers only gained 260 yards against Atlanta's 358 yards of offense, but the Buccaneers were still able to pull out a three-point win with a late touchdown drive.

Emeka Egbuka grabbed a 25-yard touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield with under a minute remaining in the game to help the team take a 23-20 lead, which ended up being the final score. Mayfield finished the game on just 17-32 passing with 167 yards, but came up big when it mattered as he had three touchdown passes and no interceptions. Egbuka had a strong opening day; the 22-year-old rookie out of Ohio State led the team in receptions with four to go with his 67 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Evans is a perennial staple for Tampa Bay and had five catches for 51 yards in the opening game of the season.

Tampa Bay did not get much going on the ground, as the team collectively only rushed for 101 yards in the game. Mayfield was their leading rusher with 39 yards on the ground, with Bucky Irving second with 37 yards on 14 carries. Vita Vea will be available to eat up space in the middle, while Antoine Winfield Jr. is healthy as one of the best safeties in the game.

Texans Host Home Opener

The Houston Texans operate in the AFC South, and as most football fans know, this is not the most difficult division in football. The Texans have a young star quarterback, an up-and-coming coach, and a favorable schedule, which should put them in solid positioning for a playoff run. They will need to make up for their opening game loss, as they were unable to hit double digits in scoring in their loss against the Rams. In that game, Houston went scoreless in the second half in the 14-9 loss.

CJ Stroud hit a bit of a sophomore slump in his second season in the league, but is still considered one of the best young quarterbacks in the game. In their first game against Los Angeles, Stroud passed for 188 yards on 19-27 passing, but was not able to record his first passing touchdown of the season while tossing one interception. Stroud rushed for 32 yards, but their top threat in the ground game will be Nick Chubb. The 29-year-old back spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Browns, and is now in his first season as the lead back in Houston. Chubb ran for 60 yards in the opening game.

Christian Kirk and Tank Dell will be out of this game with injuries, leaving Nico Collins as their most talented wideout. He had only one catch for 25 yards against the Rams, but he will be expected to do much more damage in this game. Dalton Schultz is their reliable tight end; he had three catches for 28 yards last week. Derek Stingley Jr. is an elite cornerback, while Danielle Hunter will still provide pressure on the opposing quarterback off the edge.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Houston Texans picks

Spread pick and prediction for Buccaneers vs. Texans

  • Texans -2.5 (5 units)

This is as good a buy-low, sell-high line as you will find all weekend. Houston only needs to win by a field goal here and will be highly motivated as they need to avoid an 0-2 start. Houston only scored nine points in their opener, but will now be making their home opener and will have a different offensive plan that will cover this small number. The Texans will target Nico Collins more, as the young star receiver will not have another outing where he finishes with just one catch. Nick Chubb will be more comfortable with the offense after running behind his new line for the first time last week. Tampa Bay needed a last-minute touchdown to beat the Falcons, they will fall here as both teams go to 1-1.

Take the Texans to cover.

Over/Under Pick for Bucs vs. Texans

  • Over 42.5

This is a major overreaction from the books, setting this number all the way down at 42.5 for Monday night. This number is closer to a preseason number, but each team will have its starters out for the full game, and the 2.5-point spread seems to signify that it will be a close matchup. The Texans only had nine points in their opener, and Tampa Bay only had 17 points heading into the final minutes of their game against Atlanta. The tides will turn in this game as the offenses wake back up and put up a high number here.

Take the over.
