The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4, 5-5 ATS, 6-4 O/U) meet with the Los Angeles Rams (8-2, 7-3 ATS, 4-5-1 O/U) in an NFC showdown on Sunday evening, and we have the prediction. The Buccaneers were dealt a road loss by the Bills last week. The Rams posted a home win against the Seahawks in their previous action. These squads last met in 2022 in a game the Buccaneers won. The Rams are a 7.5-point favorite and the total is 49.

Buccaneers Attempt to End Losing Streak

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hoping to avoid a third straight defeat.  Tampa Bay has dealt with key injuries and has dropped three of its past four games. The Buccaneers are standing atop the NFC South, just 0.5 games ahead of the Panthers. Tampa Bay beat the Saints to conclude October and has not won since. They were charged with a home loss to the Patriots two weeks ago and dropped a 44-32 road decision against the Bills last week in a game where the Bucs were marked as six-point underdogs. The Buccaneers have covered the spread in two of their past five games. A stomach bug is going around the team, but most players were full participants in practice on Thursday.

Baker Mayfield is having another outstanding season. The 30-year-old QB has thrown 225 or more yards in six games this season. Mayfield was shaky last week, managing only 173 yards, and has posted 2365 passing yards and a 17:3 TD to INT ratio. Tampa Bay will run more than pass. Rachaad White amassed 51 yards last week. The 26-year-old RB has 376 rushing yards. Bucky Irving has not played since September due to injury. He has 237 rushing yards.

The receiving core has been decimated with injuries. Star receiver Mike Evans has missed the last five games and remains on the IR. Emeka Egbuka has stepped up with big games. The 23-year-old WR has reached 100 receiving yards on three occasions. He issued 40 yards last week and has netted 717 yards on the season. The Tampa Bay offense recorded 367 total yards last week. They are averaging 332 yards per game.

The Buccaneers' defense has been hit or miss most of the season. They have not been sharp in the past two games. The unit squandered 414 total yards in the defeat in Buffalo last week, dipping their season average to 342 yards per game. Tyreke Smith has been a threat, making a combined 75 tackles and deflecting nine passes. Linebacker Hassan Reddick is questionable. The pass defense is 26th, while the rush defense is a strength, coming in at 10th.

Tampa Bay is averaging 25.2 points on the year, ranking them 10th. The Buccaneers are conceding an average of 25 points, placing them 21st.

Key Injuries for Bucs:

  • RB Bucky Irving (shoulder/foot) is out again. Has just 237 yards and 3.3ypc this season.
  • OG Ben Bredeson (hamstring) is questionable.
  • OLB Haason Reddick (ankle/knee) is questionable.
  • WR Emeka Egbuka (illness) is questionable. Has 45 catches for 717 yards and six TDs.

Rams Post Fifth Straight Win

The Los Angeles Rams are targeting their sixth straight win. Los Angeles stands atop the NFC West, one game ahead of the Seahawks. The Rams have not lost since early October. They posted a 42-26 road win against San Francisco two weeks ago and played stingy defense in a narrow 21-19 home win against the Seahawks last week. They were three-point favorites in that one. The Rams have covered the spread in four of their past five games.

Matt Stafford continues to prove he still has it. The 37-year-old QB has surpassed 250 passing yards in five games this season. He was quiet last week, posting only 130 yards, and has delivered 2557 passing yards and a 27:2 TD to INT ratio. The running game has also been steady. Kyren Williams has been one of the better RBs in the entire NFL, posting 50 or more yards in each game. Williams has reported 750 rushing yards on the season.

Puka Nacua is targeted more than any other receiver. He yielded 75 yards in the win last week. The 24-year-old has reported 850 receiving yards on the season. Davante Adams is next up with 569 receiving yards. The Los Angeles offense only managed 249 yards last week. They are posting an average of 360 yards per game on the season.

The Rams' defense has been key in the winning streak. They will give up yards, but are keeping opponents in check. They only gave up 19 points last week, but it was on 400+ yards. Safety Quentin Lake has made 61 tackles and deflected 10 passes.  The pass defense is a weakness, ranking 21st, while the rush defense is a strength, standing at 11th.

Los Angeles is scoring an average of 27.2 points on the season, ranking them sixth. The Rams are keeping opponents to 17.2 points, placing them second in the entire NFL.

Key Injuries for Rams:

  • LB Nate Landman (back) is questionable. Has 44 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
  • S Quentin Lake (elbow) was placed on the IR. Has 37 tackles, 10 PD and a pick.
  • OT Rob Havenstein (ankle) was placed on the IR.

Buccaneers vs. Rams Pick

Spread Pick for Bucs vs. Rams

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +7.5 (5 units)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are desperate for a win here after dropping two games in a row. The Buccaneers have been a threat on the road, sporting a 4-2 mark on the season, including a win against the Seahawks. The Los Angeles Rams are hot, but this is a big spread against a good Bucs squad. L.A. only won by two points at home last week and was kept to under 250 yards.

Furthermore, I expect a big output from Baker Mayfield. The Tampa Bay passing game is above the NFL average, and the Rams will give up yards in the air. The Rams are squandering an average of 222 passing yards per game, ranking them 21st in the NFL. Also, the Rams' defense gave up more than 400 total yards in the win last week. The Tampa Bay rushing offense is also a threat; they surpassed 200 rushing yards last week. The Rams squandered 135 rushing yards in their win last week.

Over/Under Pick for Buccaneers vs. Rams

  • Over 49 (5 units)

I expect plenty of scoring in this one. The Buccaneers' defense has been a weakness in the recent defeats. They have surrendered 28 and 44 points in their past two games against New England and Buffalo. Stafford is delivering huge numbers, and his passing offense is sixth in the NFL. The success should continue against a shaky Bucs' pass defense that is pegged 27th.

In addition, Tampa Bay is producing offense, even without Mike Evans, who remains out.  Tampa Bay has scored 23 or more points in five of its past six games. Tampa Bay is just as dangerous on the road, scoring an average of 24 points on the road this season. Also, there is a good chance WR Chris Godwin Jr. returns this week. The over is a convincing 6-2 in the Buccaneers' previous eight games.
