Cam Ward Makes NFL Debut for Tennessee

The Tennessee Titans begin a new season with a vision of building a contender in the next few years. The Titans went just 3-14 last season, resulting in the 1st pick in the NFL draft. They selected QB Cam Ward with that pick. The wins last season occurred against the Dolphins, Patriots, and Texans. The Titans were busy in the draft, but management did not make many key signings or additions. It is going to be another rough season, but if Ward can post big numbers, the season will be considered a success.

Cam Ward brings a lot of hype, and for good reason. The 23-year-old posted dominating numbers with Washington State and Miami Florida. Last season, he recorded 4300 passing yards and a 39:7 TD to INT ratio. Ward converted on 10 of 19 passes for 145 yards in the preseason. The Titans have a decent running game led by Tony Pollard. The 28-year-old was one of the few positives out of last season. Pollard netted 1079 rushing yards on 4.2 yards per rush.

Calvin Ridley enters this year as the #1 receiver. The 30-year-old was a threat last season, bringing in 1017 yards. He is dealing with a minor injury and is expected to play in this game. Management brought in established veteran Tyler Lockett, who has spent the entirety of his career in Seattle. The 32-year-old is not quite as dangerous as he was in his prime, but he helps a young roster. Lockett posted 600 receiving yards in 2024. Tennessee averaged 304 yards per game last season.

The Titans' defense was their strength last season, and it should be decent again this year. They lost sack leader Landry III, but return linebacker Arden Keys, who made 6.5 sacks. They also signed Cody Barton. The veteran linebacker is a solid addition and had a strong year with the Broncos last year, making 53 tackles. The Titans kept opponents to an average of 311 yards per game last year.

Tennessee averaged 18.3 points per game last season, ranking them 27th. The Titans squandered an average of  27.1 points, pegging them 30th.

Broncos Poised to be Contenders in the AFC

The Denver Broncos are a team that could establish itself as true contenders in the AFC. The signs were there last season. The Broncos lost the first two games in 2024 and answered by dropping only two games the rest of the way, finishing with a 10-7 record. The Bills ousted them in the Wildcard playoff. The Broncos have a strong roster that could challenge for the top spot in a tough division that includes the Chargers and Chiefs.

Bo Nix is poised for a productive season. The 25-year-old had an outstanding rookie season, amassing 3775 passing yards complemented by a 29:12 TD to INT ratio. He reached 250 passing yards in six games. The running game should be improved. Denver has a different look at running back with J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. Dobbins netted 905 rushing yards in 13 games with the Chargers last season. He has battled injuries, which is a concern. Harvey was a first-round pick out of UCF and has the talent to become a star.

Denver has a solid receiving core propelled by Courtland Sutton. The 29-year-old enjoyed a marvelous 2024 season, registering 1081 receiving yards. Marvin Mims Jr. is also a key receiver. The 23-year-old posted 503 receiving yards last year.  The Denver offense averaged 319 yards per game last season.

The Broncos' defense is among the best in the NFL. They added big pieces to the secondary and have a stud in Patrick Surtain II. The cornerback is the reigning defensive player of the year. The Broncos added Talonoa Hufanga in the offseason. The 25-year-old safety only played in seven games last season with the 49ers. Last year’s tackling leader, Brandon Jones, is also back. The Broncos held opponents to an average of 325 yards per game last year.

Denver scored an average of 24 points in 2024, marking them 10th. The Broncos kept opponents to an average of 19 points, placing them 3rd in the NFL.

Spread Pick for Titans vs. Broncos

  • Denver Broncos -8 (5 units)

The Tennessee Titans are in a rebuilding season after winning only three games last year. They have the #1 pick, Cam Ward, making his NFL debut in this one. This is an intimidating atmosphere on the road in Denver to begin his career. The Denver Broncos are one of the best teams in the AFC this season. This is a talented group with a rising star at QB in Bo Nix and an elite defense that has the reigning defensive player of the year.

Furthermore, the Titans were one of the worst teams against the spread in the NFL last season, covering the spread in only two games. The Titans' pass defense is solid, but the rush defense is a huge weakness. The Titans were pegged 25th against the run last year. I expect a big performance from a healthy J.K. Dobbins, who was on his way to 1100+ rushing yards last season before injury. I expect Denver QB Bo Nix to have a ton of time in the pocket against a Titans' pass rush that was ranked 29th in sacks last season. Offensively, Cam Ward has a daunting task against an elite Broncos pass rush that led the NFL in sacks per game.

Over/Under Pick for Titans vs. Broncos

  • Total: Over 42 (5 units)

I expect this one to go over. Despite having a pass defense that ranked 2nd last season, the Titans' defense gave up a ton of points, ranking 30th. The Titans gave up a ton of points on the road, squandering 27 or more points in all but three road games last season.

In addition, Cam Ward has a ton of hype surrounding him, and I expect the #1 pick to display his talents. The Broncos' pass defense was mediocre last year, conceding an average of 222 passing yards per game, ranking them below average at 20th. Denver piled on the points at home in the second half of last year. They have scored 28 or more points in five consecutive home games. The over is a convincing 5-1 in the Titans' past six road games.
