Tennessee is Under New Leadership
The Tennessee Titans were the first team in the NFL to fire their coach in 2025, as they dismissed Brian Callahan after his 1-5 start to the season. Mike McCoy was the quarterback coach who was promoted to interim head coach for the remainder of the season. There was no "new coach energy" in their first game with McCoy at the helm, as the Patriots defeated them by 18 in a New England cover. In that game, Tennessee got 255 passing yards from Cam Ward, as he threw for one touchdown and one interception in the loss.
Ward was the number one draft pick coming into the season, and has taken every snap for the Titans through their first seven games. He has had some growing pains, as his 4-5 TD-INT ratio certainly will need to be improved on going forward. Ward is averaging 193.7 passing yards per game, and has not looked to run much as he has only rushed for 36 yards on the season. Tony Pollard has been their top back, the former Cowboy has become their go-to guy in Tennessee, and leads the team with 380 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Calvin Ridley was their top receiver, but he will miss this game with an injury. This leaves Elic Ayomanor as their top option in the passing game, the rookie out of Stanford has 19 catches for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Their defense has 13 sacks on the season, but their sack leader is out as Jeffrey Simmons will miss this game with a hamstring issue. They have four interceptions on the year, with linebacker Cody Barton leading the way with two.
Injury Report:
Out: WR Calvin Ridley, DT Jeffrey Simmons, CB L'Jarius Sneed
Questionable: S Xavier Woods
Colts Continue to Impress
The Indianapolis Colts have been one of the surprise teams of the season so far, as they enter this game with a 6-1 record after entering the season with low expectations. The Colts would be the top seed in the AFC if the Playoffs were to begin today, and they hope to keep this strong start going with their matchup against Tennessee this week. The Colts just took down the Chargers in their last game, as Daniel Jones passed for 288 yards with two touchdowns in the win.
Jones has been the biggest surprise for the Colts this season, and is even rumored to be in the Comeback Player of the Year running, despite not even being injured last year. So far this season, Jones has been averaging 255.7 passing yards per game while completing 71.0% of his passes. He has a 10-3 TD-INT ratio, and has rushed for 83 yards out of the pocket. Jonathan Taylor has looked like one of the best running backs in the league, he leads the NFL with 697 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Colts have several reliable options in the passing game, but rookie tight end Tyler Warren has been the most reliable with his 33 catches for 439 yards and three touchdowns. Michael Pittman Jr. has added 351 yards, while Alec Pierce has contributed another 317 yards in the passing game. The defense has 19 sacks, with defensive tackle DeForest Buckner helping to lead the way with three. The Colts have nine interceptions on the year.
Injury Report:
Out: CB Charvarius Ward, CB Jaylon Jones, DE Samson Ebukan
Questionable: DE Tyquan Lewis
Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts picks
Spread pick and prediction for Titans vs. Colts
- Titans +14.5 (5 units)
This is still the NFL, and this is a divisional matchup; this spread is far too high. This is a number that you see in college football, putting far more value on the Titans in this one. The Titans are now trying to tank this early in the season; they already drafted a quarterback first overall, and are not hunting for a top spot to draft a quarterback again. McCoy is their interim coach, and he has finally had enough time to prep his team for an upcoming game, and he will want to make a strong impression as coaches do not get many opportunities like this. The Colts only beat the Cardinals by four recently, and the Titans beat that same Arizona team as well. This game will be far closer than expected as McCoy puts Ward in positions for success.
Take the Titans to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Titans vs. Colts
- Under 47.5 (4 units)
The Titans have their backs against the ropes and know they need to keep this a low-scoring game to keep it close. Tennessee scored 13 or fewer in three of its last four games and has an interim head coach steering the ship. This means they are likely to play conservatively on offense, run the ball, and attempt to limit turnovers in hoping the team with the ball last can win the game. Indianapolis has a strong ground game with Taylor leading the league in rushing. If they can get an early lead, they will keep the ball on the ground and run the clock.
Take the under.
