Anaheim Ducks vs New York Rangers Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Monday October 19 2026

Anaheim opens a four-game road trip against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Monday at 7 p.m. ET. Both teams have reasons to believe this will be a tight game, but the paths to winning are different. New York has been priced around -135 to -145, a playable favorite range if its defensive structure can compensate for injuries in net.
The Ducks are 4-3-0, while the Rangers carry a 6-3-1 mark after losing 1-0 in overtime at Columbus. Anaheim’s recent defeats to Calgary and Boston have exposed trouble protecting leads. New York’s last two losses have highlighted the other side of that problem: keeping opponents off the board means little if the finishing and power play cannot turn possession into goals.

Anaheim Ducks Analysis

Anaheim’s most dangerous pieces are its younger forwards. Leo Carlsson can carry the puck through traffic and create plays underneath the faceoff circles, while Cutter Gauthier adds a direct shooting threat. Beckett Sennecke has shown an ability to get to scoring areas, and the Ducks can create an awkward matchup when their centers keep the puck below the goal line.
However, Anaheim lost 4-2 to Calgary and then 4-2 to Boston. In both games, key goals conceded late left the Ducks unable to finish off promising stretches. Their puck management and defensive coverage around the slot have been inconsistent, and the Bruins game exposed a penalty kill that had previously held up fairly well. Anaheim also failed on five power-play opportunities against Boston.
Troy Terry has been out with a hip issue, and Mikael Granlund missed the Boston game with an upper-body injury. Granlund is traveling with the club, but his return should not be described as certain. Ryan Poehling has also been sidelined. If Anaheim remains short at forward, there is more pressure on Carlsson and Gauthier to generate their own entries and finish chances without much relief from the supporting lines.
Lukas Dostal is the expected starting goalie, not confirmed at this stage. He can keep Anaheim close if he limits rebounds and controls the first shot. The Ducks will also need better faceoff and breakout support than they delivered against Boston, because spending long shifts below the circles makes even a capable goalie vulnerable.

New York Rangers Analysis

The Rangers are dealing with an extraordinary goaltending situation. Igor Shesterkin has been ruled out for the season with a lower-body injury, and Joonas Korpisalo has also been on the injury list. Dylan Garand has been thrust into meaningful NHL starts and responded well on Saturday, stopping every shot in regulation before Columbus scored the lone goal in overtime. His recent .927 save percentage provides a reason to trust the young goalie without pretending the longer-term uncertainty has disappeared.
New York’s forward group features Mika Zibanejad, J.T. Miller, Alexis Lafreniere and Pavel Dorofeyev in meaningful roles. Adam Fox remains a major advantage on the blue line when the Rangers get organized exits and want to create a quick second attack. Those players should give New York enough chances against an Anaheim defense that has struggled to protect the middle of the ice.
The immediate concern is finishing. The Rangers did not score at Columbus despite several power plays, and they have endured an extended stretch without a five-on-five goal. Their power play has converted six of 30 opportunities, a respectable but insufficient rate when the game is being decided by one mistake. Coach Mike Sullivan needs cleaner entries and more traffic in front, not simply additional shots from the perimeter.
The home record is the counterweight. New York has been strong at Madison Square Garden and is attempting to extend an unbeaten home start. The Rangers have shown they can protect the middle and play with patience, which matters against a Ducks team capable of explosive rushes when opponents chase the game.

Odds and Line Movement

The early DraftKings matchup was Rangers -135 and Ducks +114, and Sunday’s quoted line had not shifted materially from that opener. A separate BetMGM snapshot showed New York around -145 and Anaheim +118, while a consensus comparison sat near -140. This is better described as a modest sportsbook spread than a dramatic market move.
The total has been quoted at both six and 6.5 depending on the sportsbook and snapshot. That disagreement makes an exact total recommendation unattractive, particularly with both starting goalies unconfirmed. The Rangers moneyline is the cleaner expression of the matchup: it does not require New York to win by multiple goals or rely on a particular scoring tempo.
The price discipline matters. At -145 or better, New York remains within the ceiling, but a push past -150 would weaken the risk-reward balance in a game where Anaheim’s young forwards can produce a quick equalizer.

Ducks vs Rangers Prediction

Anaheim’s best route is to force New York into an open-ice contest and capitalize before the Rangers settle into their preferred defensive structure. The Rangers instead want controlled exits, possession from their more experienced centers and power-play chances created by sustained pressure. If the home team produces even a modest rebound in finishing, its defensive performance should be enough.
Garand’s recent play and the Rangers’ home success tip the handicap toward New York, although the Ducks have the talent to keep it close. With a manageable favorite price and no need to lay a puck line, New York is the more defensible selection.
