Anaheim Ducks vs Vegas Golden Knights Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Friday October 2 2026

The Anaheim Ducks open their season Friday night against a Vegas Golden Knights team that already has a victory on the board. Vegas handled Chicago 5-2 in its opener and returns to T-Mobile Arena as a substantial favorite. Anaheim has enough young talent to make this matchup interesting, but a significant injury and the size of the Vegas moneyline make the full-game total a better betting option than either side.

Anaheim Opens Without Troy Terry

Anaheim begins the season without Troy Terry, who was placed on long-term injured reserve before the opener. That is a major loss for a Ducks offense that needs its skilled forwards to convert a greater share of its opportunities. Terry has been one of Anaheim's most dependable offensive players, and removing him from the lineup puts additional responsibility on the rest of the young core.
Leo Carlsson remains one of the most important players in Anaheim's development. The Ducks need him to drive play through the middle and create opportunities for teammates rather than allowing Vegas to dictate every matchup. Cutter Gauthier also gives Anaheim another dangerous shooter, but generating clean looks against Vegas requires sustained possession rather than isolated rush chances.
The Ducks improved offensively last season, averaging more than three goals per game, but opening night in Las Vegas is a difficult environment. Anaheim's best chance is to remain patient, avoid unnecessary penalties and prevent the Golden Knights from creating repeated second chances around the crease.

Vegas Has Too Much Depth to Chase on the Moneyline

Vegas opened with a 5-2 win over Chicago and again looks capable of producing offense throughout the lineup. Mitch Marner gives the Golden Knights another elite playmaker, while Jack Eichel, Tomas Hertl and William Karlsson provide experience through the middle. Vegas can create pressure with different combinations rather than asking one line to carry the scoring burden.
That depth is reflected in the price. The Golden Knights are around -196 on the moneyline, which is too expensive for a straight-side recommendation. The puck line offers a better return but requires Vegas to win by multiple goals. The total at 6.5 creates a cleaner alternative.
Anaheim's missing offense matters here. Terry's absence makes it harder for the Ducks to contribute enough goals to force the game over the number, while Vegas has little incentive to play recklessly if it establishes an early lead. A controlled Golden Knights performance can produce a comfortable victory without requiring seven combined goals.

What Could Decide the Game

Anaheim's discipline is central to the under. Giving Vegas repeated power plays would create exactly the kind of game the Ducks want to avoid. Anaheim needs to keep five skaters organized, force the Golden Knights to work through layers of defense and make the home team earn goals at even strength.
Vegas, meanwhile, does not have to chase style points. The Golden Knights are heavily favored because their roster is deeper and more established. If they take a lead, protecting the puck and forcing Anaheim to manufacture offense is a better approach than trading rushes. That game state is one reason the under is more attractive than paying the premium attached to the Vegas moneyline.

Anaheim Needs a Controlled Opener

The Ducks have little reason to make their season debut a speed contest against Vegas. A young team on the road can quickly lose control of a game after one turnover or failed penalty kill, particularly in a building where the Golden Knights feed off momentum. Anaheim's priority should be getting pucks deep, changing cleanly and making Vegas travel the length of the ice.
That approach can also keep Anaheim close enough to remain patient offensively. Carlsson and Gauthier do not need dozens of chances to threaten the Golden Knights, but the Ducks need their opportunities to come from controlled possessions rather than desperate attacks while trailing by multiple goals. If Anaheim reaches the third period within one or two goals, the under remains in a favorable position even if Vegas ultimately closes out the victory.

Ducks vs Golden Knights Prediction

The total is 6.5, with the under available around even money at some books. That is preferable to paying nearly -200 for Vegas. The Golden Knights should own more possession and generate the better scoring opportunities, but Anaheim can help the under by playing a conservative road game and leaning on its goaltending rather than trying to exchange chances.
There is always danger in betting an under involving Vegas because the Golden Knights can score quickly when an opponent begins chasing the game. Still, seven goals is a demanding threshold when Anaheim is missing Terry and playing its first regular-season game. Vegas can control this matchup without recreating the five-goal output it produced against Chicago.
Best Bet: Under 6.5 goals at -110 or better.
Prediction: Vegas Golden Knights 4, Anaheim Ducks 2.
