Winnipeg Jets vs San Jose Sharks prediction
Anaheim heads to Winnipeg trying to recover from a 5-2 loss to Edmonton, while the Jets return home after beating Colorado 3-2 on Wednesday. Winnipeg is 3-0-1 and has won three consecutive games; Anaheim is 2-1 after opening with two victories. The Ducks have enough attacking talent to make this competitive, but the Jets have demonstrated a more reliable defensive identity in the first week.
The betting market makes Winnipeg a modest favorite. The Jets were near -118 earlier in the market and have been listed around -125 Friday, with Anaheim around +105. The full-game total is 6.5. The shift toward Winnipeg is understandable after the Jets beat a high-powered Avalanche team, but the price remains within a playable range for a team that has protected the middle of the ice well.

Anaheim Ducks Analysis

Anaheim’s opening wins over Vegas and Florida showed why its young core is generating excitement. Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gauthier and Beckett Sennecke provide skill, pace and a willingness to attack the net. The Ducks also have dangerous special teams, and Sennecke scored twice on the power play against Edmonton. Their offense is capable of challenging Winnipeg even if the Jets limit clean five-on-five chances.
The loss to Edmonton exposed the other side of Anaheim’s profile. The Ducks took a 2-0 first-period lead, then surrendered five unanswered goals in the second period. Lukas Dostal allowed five goals on 17 shots, a difficult outing after his strong start. Anaheim needs steadier goaltending and better coverage through the neutral zone. Troy Terry remains sidelined with a hip injury, and the Ducks also have defensive injury questions involving Drew Helleson and Ian Moore.

Winnipeg Jets Analysis

Winnipeg’s win over Colorado was one of the more impressive early results in the league. Kyle Connor scored twice, including the winner, while Stuart Skinner stopped 32 shots against an Avalanche team that had scored 14 goals in its first two games. The Jets did not shut down every chance, but they absorbed pressure and responded at important moments. That kind of game management matters against an Anaheim team that can produce bursts of offense.
The goaltending situation is unusual because Connor Hellebuyck remains suspended after failing to report to training camp. Skinner has given the Jets useful early stability, while Clay Stevenson also won in Pittsburgh. Skinner was listed as the projected starter for Friday rather than formally confirmed. Josh Morrissey is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, a meaningful concern because he helps Winnipeg exit the zone and organize its attack. The Jets can win without him, but their defensive depth would face a greater test.

Matchup and Line Movement

Winnipeg should try to make Anaheim earn its entries rather than letting the Ducks attack with speed through the middle. Connor and Cole Perfetti can punish turnovers when Anaheim commits too many players forward, while the Jets’ defense can keep the game manageable by limiting second chances. The Ducks will want to challenge Winnipeg’s goaltender with traffic and make the Jets defend below the goal line, especially if Morrissey is unavailable.
The two teams arrive with different recent experiences. Winnipeg has just survived an intense matchup against Colorado and can draw confidence from that result. Anaheim must regroup after losing control of a game it led by two goals. Both played Wednesday, so neither has a significant rest advantage, although the Jets avoid travel between those games. The market’s modest adjustment toward Winnipeg is reasonable, but not large enough to remove the home team’s value.

Best Bet

Winnipeg moneyline at -130 or better is the selection. The Jets have played with better defensive consistency, have a productive top scorer in Connor and have already beaten a dangerous offensive opponent. Anaheim can score enough to threaten the wager, but Winnipeg’s home ice and ability to manage momentum give it the slight edge.
The pick becomes weaker if Morrissey is ruled out and the replacement pairings struggle, or if Anaheim’s power play generates repeated opportunities. The projected game is competitive rather than one-sided, so the standard moneyline is more sensible than asking Winnipeg to cover a puck line.
The Ducks cannot afford another prolonged defensive collapse. Against Edmonton, the problem was not simply a poor save percentage: Anaheim allowed the game to accelerate after taking the lead. Winnipeg is less likely to match Edmonton’s top-end offensive fireworks, but it is capable of turning a careless stretch into a decisive advantage. The Ducks need shorter shifts, cleaner exits and stronger coverage of Connor to prevent the same pattern from developing.
Best Bet: Winnipeg Jets moneyline at -130 or better
Prediction: Winnipeg Jets 4, Anaheim Ducks 3
