The Falcons aim for their third straight victory
The Atlanta Falcons (3-2; 3-2 ATS; 1-4 O/U) have gone 3-1 SU and ATS over their previous four outings. After a 22-6 road win over the Minnesota Vikings and a shocking 30-0 defeat at the Carolina Panthers, the Falcons strung together home wins against the Washington Commanders 34-27 and the Buffalo Bills 24-14.

The Falcons sandwiched a bye week between those two wins against Washington and Buffalo. Last Monday, the Falcons dominated the Bills, outgaining Buffalo 443-291 in total yards. Atlanta won the turnover battle 2-0 and sacked Josh Allen four times. Michael Penix Jr. threw for 250 yards and a touchdown, Drake London had 10 catches for 158 yards and a TD, and Bijan Robinson posted 19 carries for 170 yards and a TD.
“That was a playoff atmosphere for two playoff teams, or about to be,” Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris said. “Keep doing what you do every day and playing for each other. That was a selfless win.”
The Falcons allow 20.0 points per game (tied for 7th in the NFL) and lead the league in yards allowed at 254.3 per game. They’ve only allowed two rushing touchdowns thus far despite surrendering 4.8 yards per carry (27th). On the other side of the ball, the Falcons tally 20.0 points per game (27th) on 151.2 rushing yards (1st) and 227.6 passing yards (12th).
Penix Jr. has tossed for 1,168 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions so far this season. London has caught 34 of his 53 targets for 427 yards and two touchdowns, while Robinson has already mustered a staggering 822 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns.
Darnell Mooney missed the Bills game due to a hamstring injury, and the veteran wideout was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice. Tight end Feleipe Franks (calf) practiced in limited fashion, too, while left tackle Jake Matthews is questionable for Week 7 with an ankle injury.
The 49ers look for a bounce-back performance
The San Francisco 49ers (4-2; 3-3 ATS; 4-2 O/U) opened the season with a three-game winning streak. Since then, the Niners have gone 1-2 SU and ATS, sandwiching a 26-23 overtime victory at the Los Angeles Rams with a 26-21 home loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and a 30-19 defeat at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last Sunday, the 49ers didn’t just lose the game against the Bucs. They also lost Fred Warner, as the All-Pro linebacker suffered a season-ending ankle injury. The 49ers outgained the Buccaneers 363-352 in total yards but lost the turnover battle 2-0 and scored just three points in the second half.
Mac Jones had a bad day in the office last Sunday. He threw for 347 yards and two interceptions, and the Bucs sacked Jones six times. Christian McCaffrey led the way for San Francisco with 17 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown and seven receptions for 57 yards, while Kendrick Bourne had five catches for 142 yards.
“Obviously, I didn't play my best,” Jones said. “I'm proud we went out there and fought. I just want to go out there and practice and see what I can do better.”
Jones has thrown for 1,252 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions across four games this season. He replaced Brock Purdy, who’s struggled with injuries and is questionable to play against the Falcons. San Francisco scores 20.8 points per game (24th in the NFL) and allows 21.3 points in return (15th).
The 49ers have serious injury worries. Tight end George Kittle (hamstring) hasn’t played since Week 1, though he was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice. WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) didn’t practice on Wednesday, while wideout Brandon Aiyuk and defensive end Nick Bosa are both out.
Falcons vs. 49ers Pick
Spread Pick for Falcons vs. 49ers
- Atlanta Falcons +1.5 (5 units)
San Francisco tallies just 82.2 rushing yards per game (30th in the NFL) and 3.1 yards per carry (tied for 31st). The 49ers lean on their passing offense, and I think they will struggle to move the chains against the Falcons, whose passing defense has done a great job so far this season.
The Falcons allow just 139.4 passing yards per game (1st). They rank second in the league in sack percentage (9.7%) and third in opposing passer rating (77.1).
San Francisco’s defense is not bad, but Fred Warner’s absence will hurt the Niners a lot. Hereof, I’m backing the Falcons to beat the number. The 49ers are just 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 4-11 ATS in their previous 15 games overall.
Over/Under Pick for Falcons vs. 49ers
- Under 46.5 (5 units)
As I said, the 49ers will have a tall task to move the chains frequently in this matchup. The Falcons’ passing defense is one of the best in the NFL, and Atlanta has only allowed nine red-zone attempts to their rivals through five outings this season.
These two offensive units have struggled a lot in the red zone thus far. The Falcons’ offense ranks 27th in the NFL in red-zone percentage (43.8%), and the Niners are right behind with 42.9%. Moreover, the Falcons are fourth in opposing 3rd down percentage (32.1%), and the 49ers are fifth in this category (33.8%). Give me the under.
