The Colorado Avalanche face the New York Islanders with both teams heading in opposite directions. The Avalanche have a 19-1-6 record, and with nine wins in their last 10 games, they have the best record in the NHL. The Islanders are 14-10-3 and three losses in their last four games have them on the outside of the wild card in the Eastern Conference looking in.

We have the best NHL Predictions sure to provide a great payout.

Colorado has been great across the board

The Avalanche are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 4.08 goals per game with 10 goals in the last two games. Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas have scored 35 goals and 44 assists to lead the top line, while Cale Makar has nine goals and 23 assists from the point to put himself in the Hart Trophy conversation as one of the best all-around players in the game.

The offense is remarkable while the defense is also the best in the league, allowing only 2.04 goals per gam,e including only three goals in the last two games. Cale Makar and Devon Toews have combined for 5.5 defensive point shares, while Josh Manson and Sam Malinski have combined for 3.5 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Scott Wedgewood has been lights out lately, with only six goals in his last four starts.

Key injury report for Avalanche

  • No key injuries to report.

Islanders offense has let them down lately

The Islanders have struggled on offense all season, scoring only 2.85 goals per game and it’s been awful in recent games as well, scoring only eight goals in the last five games. Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat have scored 23 goals and 22 assists, while Matthew Schaefer has added eight goals and 11 assists from the point, but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four active skaters have six goals or more, and opponents can limit the offense with ease.

The offense has struggled but the defense remains a bright spot, allowing only one goal in the last game and 2.78 goals per game all season. Adam Pelech and Matthew Schaefer have combined for 4.0 defensive point share,s while Ryan Pulock and Scott Mayfield have combined for 3.0 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Additionally, goaltender Ilya Sorokin is playing at a high level, allowing only three goals in his last two games.

Key injury report for Islanders

  • Kyle Palmieri (torn ACL) is out for the season. Had six goals and 12 assists.
  • Jean-Gabriel Pageau (upper body) is out for two to three weeks. Has six goals and six assists.

Avalanche vs Islanders Pick

Money Line Pick For Avalanche vs Islanders

  • Avalanche -1.5 (+130) (4 units)

The Avalanche are the best team in the NHL, and I see them taking over this game from the first period. The Avalanche, who have scored 10 goals in their last two games, should pile on the goals with Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes as Cale Makar fires shots on the net from the point. Speaking of Makar, he looks to lead an Avalanche defense that has allowed only three goals in the last two games by creating turnovers in the defensive zone alongside Devon Toews while Scott Wedgewood blanks the shots on the net. The Avalanche should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on the road.

Over/Under Pick For Avalanche vs Islanders

  • Under 6 (5 Units)

Both teams are playing great defense, and I see this game being a low-scoring one from the first period. The Islanders look to build off a game where they allowed only one goal and limit the Avalanche offense with Matthew Schaefer, Adam Pelech, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Ilya Sorokin to make plenty of big saves. The Avalanche look to eliminate an Islanders offense that has only eight goals in the last five games, with Scott Wedgewood, who has allowed only six goals in the last four games, blanking the shots on the net while Cale Makar, Devon Toews, Sam Malinski, and the rest of the defensive unit turn defense into instant offense. The Under should cover in a low-scoring game with both defenses stepping up.

Take the Under on 6 goals. .
