St. Louis Going for Season Sweep

St. Louis dropped their second straight and fourth in the last six games as they were dropped on the road by Boston Thursday night. The Blues dropped to 9-12-7 on the season and were seventh in the Central Division, 19 points behind Colorado for the top spot in the Central Division. St. Louis is 30th in the league in goals for as they average 2.54 goals a contest this season. The Blues stand tied for 29th in the league in goals against as they allow an average of 3.50 goals a night. The Blues are 26th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 75.8% of their shorthanded situations this year.

Against Boston, St. Louis sputtered in both ends of the ice and that proved to be their undoing on the road. The Blues were outshot 14-10 in the opening period and skated off trailing 2-0 on the scoreboard after the opening 20 minutes of play. In the second period, St. Louis owned a 15-8 shot advantage only to be outscored 3-1 to trail by a 5-1 count at the second intermission. Pavel Buchnevich got the Blues within 2-1 with his fourth goal of the year at 1:59 off an assist from Colton Parayko. That was as close as St. Louis would get as they gave up three straight goals to trail 5-1 at the end of two periods. The third period saw the Blues with a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 1-0 edge in the scoreboard, though that left them well short as time expired. Pius Suter closed the scoring with his seventh goal of the year at 9:07 off assists from Dylan Holloway and Jordan Kyrou. Jordan Binnington made 22 saves for the Blues, who owned a 39-27 advantage in shots, in the loss. Binnington (6-7-5, 3.30 GAA, .875 save percentage) is expected between the pipes for the Blues here.

Key Injury Report for Blues:

  • Defenseman Torey Krug (ankle) is out for the season.
  • Forward Jimmy Snuggerud (wrist) is out.

Against the Rangers, Ottawa was doubled up, becoming the Rangersโ€™ 12th road victim of the year, a league-high mark. The Senators owned an 11-9 shot advantage in the opening period but skated off trailing 2-1 at the first intermission. After giving up the first two goals of the game, Ottawa got on the board when Dylan Cozens tallied his ninth goal of the season, on the power play, at 18:30 off assists from Drake Batherson and Jake Sanderson. In the second period, Ottawa was outshot 13-7 in the second period and outscored 1-0 to trail 3-1 after 40 minutes of play. The third period saw the Senators hold a 9-6 shot advantage with both teams scoring once, leaving them on the short end of the scoreboard. Batherson got the Senators within a goal with his 10th goal of the season, on the power play, at 13:08 off assists from Brady Tkachuk and Sanderson. That was as close as Ottawa would get, as they allowed an empty net goal in the gameโ€™s final minute to take the loss. Leevi Merilainen made 24 saves for the Senators, who were outshot 28-27, in the loss. Linus Ullmark (10-6-4, 3.05 GAA, .876 save percentage) is expected to get the call between the pipes here for the Senators.

Key Injury Report for Senators:

  • Defenseman Thomas Chabot (upper body) is out.
  • Center Shane Pinto (lower body) is day-to-day.
  • Defenseman Artem Zub (lower body) is day-to-day.
  • Center Lars Eller (undisclosed) is day-to-day.

Blues vs. Senators Pick

Blues vs. Senators Moneyline Pick

  • Senators -150 (4 units)

Both teams have had their issues of late, with the Blues dropping four of their previous six games, while the Senators have fallen in three of their last four. With that said, Ottawa is starting to get some pieces back in the lineup, while the Blues have seen a few contributors fall by the wayside. St. Louis has struggled offensively all season long and they are a pedestrian 4-6-3 on the road. Seeing how the Blues have had issues and the fact that they are missing Snuggerud, coupled with Binningtonโ€™s less-than-inspiring play between the pipes, you have to fade the visitors here. Look for Ottawa to prevail on home ice in this contest.

Blues vs. Senators Over/Under Pick

  • Under 5.5 (4 units)

St. Louis has seen the under post a 15-13 mark in their 28 games in relation to the total this season. The Blues have an average of 6.04 goals per game this season, and that number slips to 5.92 goals per game on the road this season. Ottawa has seen the over post a 17-10 mark in their 27 games in relation to the total this season entering Friday night. The Senators have posted an average total of 6.41 goals per game on the season, though that number slides to 5.75 goals a night in their 12 home contests this season. Lean toward this contest falling under the total as the Blues struggle offensively again.
