The 2025-26 NHL season continues Thursday, December 11, with the 13-game slate, including a cross-conference battle at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC, so we have prepared the Sabres vs. Canucks prediction to get you covered.
Buffalo meets Vancouver for the first time this season. They split a two-game series in 2024-25, with each team grabbing a win away from home. The Sabres outlasted the Canucks 4-3 in overtime, and Vancouver responded with a 3-2 victory in regulation.

The Sabres just stunned the Oilers
The Buffalo Sabres put an end to their three-game losing streak last Tuesday. After consecutive road defeats at the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2, the Winnipeg Jets 4-1, and the Calgary Flames 7-4, the Sabres beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime as +175 road underdogs.

The Sabres blew a three-goal lead at Rogers Place in Edmonton, but they earned two points thanks to Alex Tuch’s 11th goal of the season. Josh Doan netted twice in regulation, while Alex Lyon gave up three goals on 24 shots in relief. Colten Ellis posted six saves before exiting the game with a concussion.
Lyon advanced to 4-6-3 on the season. The 33-year-old netminder has an underwhelming 3.22 GAA and a .899 save percentage, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is 4-5-1 with a 2.91 GAA and a .884 save percentage in 2025-26.
The Sabres allow 3.53 goals per game (29th in the NHL) and score 3.00 goals in return (tied for 15th). Forwards Alex Tuch (G11, A15) and Tage Thompson (G14, A12) lead the way with 26 points each, while defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has recorded two goals and 21 assists this season. Center Josh Norris (G2, A5) is questionable for Thursday’s clash against Vancouver.
The Canucks are sitting at the bottom of the NHL
The Vancouver Canucks have only won two of their previous 10 games overall (2-7-1 record). Last Saturday, the Canucks snapped their four-game skid with a 4-2 home victory over the Minnesota Wild. Two days later, the Canucks suffered a 4-0 home loss against the Detroit Red Wings.
Vancouver outshot Detroit 39-21, but John Gibson had a big game in the crease, posting his first shutout in nearly three years. The Canucks went 0-for-3 with the man advantage, while Kevin Lankinen yielded three goals on just 14 shots before he was pulled off in the second period.
Lankinen has been awful this season, posting a 4-10-3 record with a 3.49 GAA and a .878 save percentage. Thatcher Demko is expected to return from a lower-body injury on Thursday. Demko carries a 5-4-0 record with a 2.80 GAA and a .903 save percentage.
The Canucks allow 3.60 goals per game (32nd in the NHL) and score 2.77 goals in return (tied for 24th). Defenseman Quinn Hughes (G2, A20) and center Elias Pettersson (G8, A14) lead the way for Vancouver. Pettersson missed two straight games with an upper-body injury and is questionable for Thursday’s game against Buffalo.
Sabres vs. Canucks Pick
Moneyline Pick for Sabres vs. Canucks
- Buffalo Sabres (5 units)
Thatcher Demko will suit up for the first time in a month. There will be some rust to shake off, and Demko will have one of the worst bluelines in the league in front of him. The Canucks have struggled to score lately, and Elias Pettersson’s injury is a huge blow to their offense.
On the other side, the Sabres have struggled to defend, too, while their offense has been pretty unpredictable all season. Frankly, we will see a couple of bad teams. The Canucks are dead last in the NHL, while the Sabres are last in the Eastern Conference.
Buffalo’s special teams could make the difference in this game. The Sabres are 13th in the league in power-play percentage (20.0%) and second in penalty killing (86.2%). The Canucks are 18th in power-play percentage (18.8%) and 30th in penalty killing (72.0%). Vancouver has allowed the most power-play goals in the NHL this season (28).
Over/Under Pick for Sabres vs. Canucks
- Under 6.5 (5 units)
The total is another tricky wager in this matchup. I noted how bad these two teams have been on the defensive side of the puck. On the other hand, the Canucks’ offense cannot be trusted, and the Sabres could easily slow down after scoring four goals in each of their previous two outings.
Hopefully, Thatcher Demko will stabilize Vancouver’s defense a bit. Buffalo will probably go with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who can only play better than he did last Monday, when he gave up five goals on 22 shots before he was pulled off in that 7-4 loss at Calgary. Luukkonen was solid in November, going 3-3-0 with a 2.52 GAA and a .901 save percentage.
