The Carolina Hurricanes head to American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, on Saturday night to face off against the Dallas Stars in a cross-conference showdown with the puck drop at 8:00 PM ET, so here’s our Hurricanes vs. Stars prediction along with the latest team stats, news, and odds update.
Carolina and Dallas open their two-game regular-season series. The Hurricanes swept the Stars in 2024-25, grabbing a 6-4 victory at home and a 2-1 win at American Airlines Center.
Let’s take a closer look at this Hurricanes vs. Stars prediction, one of our NHL picks for Saturday night. The Stars are -128 moneyline favorites with a total of 5.5 goals.
The Hurricanes lean on their offense
The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off Thursday’s 5-4 shootout victory at the Colorado Avalanche. After stopping their five-game winning streak with a 4-1 defeat at the Vegas Golden Knights, the Canes blew a 4-1 lead at Ball Arena in Denver, but they found a way to escape with two points.

Colorado outshot Carolina 48-31 on the night, so it’s fair to say that Frederik Andersen had a big game in the crease. Andersen stopped all three of Colorado’s shots in the shootout, while Seth Jarvis scored the winner for Carolina. Jarvis had a goal and an assist in the regulation.
The Hurricanes score 4.00 goals per game (tied for 2nd in the NHL) despite an ugly power-play percentage (2-for-26). They rank 12th in the league in high-danger scoring chances (53.2%), and Jarvis leads the charge with seven goals and four assists in seven games.
Andersen is 4-1-0 on the young season. He sports a 2.72 GAA and a .901 save percentage, while Brandon Bussi is 2-0-0 with a 1.97 GAA and a .911 save percentage. The Hurricanes rank sixth in the NHL in penalty killing (24-for-27).
The Stars hope to snap a four-game skid
The Dallas Stars started their 2025-26 campaign with a three-game winning streak. During that stretch, the Stars beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-4, the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in a shootout, and the Minnesota Wild 5-2. Since then, Dallas has dropped four straight games against the Vancouver Canucks 5-3, the St. Louis Blues 3-1, the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1, and the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime.
Last Thursday, the Stars outshot the Kings 31-25 and went 2-for-5 with the man advantage, but it wasn’t enough. Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston scored a goal each, while Roope Hintz made a couple of dishes. Jake Oettinger was in the net, allowing three goals on 25 shots.
Oettinger fell to 3-2-1 on the season. He holds a troublesome 3.15 GAA and a .894 save percentage, while Casey DeSmith gave up five goals on 26 shots in his lone start, when the Stars lost to the Canucks. Dallas is 29th in the NHL in goals against (3.71 per game) and 30th in penalty killing (15-for-23).
On the other side of the puck, the Stars score 3.00 goals per game (tied for 16th) while going 7-for-22 with the man advantage (3rd). Johnston, Hintz, and Mikko Rantanen have accounted for eight points each.
Hurricanes vs. Stars Pick
Moneyline Pick for Hurricanes vs. Stars
- Dallas Stars (5 units)
I’m backing the Stars to put an end to their losing streak. This is a tough spot for the Hurricanes, who wrap up a six-game road trip. Two of their previous three contests have gone overtime, and the Canes cannot count on a couple of key defensemen.
Both Jaccob Slavin and Shayne Gostisbehere are sidelined with a lower-body injury. Fellow defenseman K’Andre Miller (lower body) sat out the Avalanche game, so it’s no surprise that Carolina gave up 48 shots to Colorado. Miller is questionable for Saturday’s clash against Dallas.
The Stars’ blueline is healthy, but Dallas desperately needs more from its defense and goaltending. Yet, the Stars have enough offensive weapons to take full advantage of the Canes’ injury woes and outscore Carolina.
Over/Under Pick for Hurricanes vs. Stars
- Over 5.5 (5 units)
I can only look at the over in this matchup. As I noted, the Hurricanes miss a couple of key defenseman, and the Stars’ defense has been awful so far this season. Dallas will start improving sooner rather than later, but until that happens, I’m taking the over in the Stars’ games. They’ve allowed at least three goals in six of their seven outings this season.
Both teams are loaded with talent up front. The total is shaded to the over, but you can opt for a flat six-goal line if you want higher wages.
