Hurricanes are playing well

The Hurricanes are surging to the top of the Eastern Conference thanks to their offense, which averages 3.30 goals per game with 14 goals in the last four games. Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, and Nikolaj Ehlers have combined for 27 goals and 39 assists while defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has added three goals and 19 assists from the point to help open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up but the defense has carried the Hurricanes lately, allowing 2.80 goals per game with only three goals in the last two games. Alexander Nikishin and Shayne Gostisbehere have combined for 3.4 defensive point shares while Jalen Chatfield and Mike Reilly have combined for 2.7 defensive point shares to depth to the unit. The hope is that goaltender Pyotr Kotchetkov improves as he’s struggled in his latest starts, allowing 10 goals in his last four starts.

Key injury report for Hurricanes

  • Jaccob Slavin (lower body) started to practice this week. Is a key part of the defense.

Philadelphia is led by a great defense

The Flyers are having a great season despite their offense being a clear-cut weakness, scoring only 2.83 goals per game with only eight goals in the last three games. Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny have scored 19 goals and 34 assists, but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four active skaters have eight goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has carried them, allowing only 2.79 goals per game with only nine goals in the last four games. Travis Sanheim and Jamie Drysdale have combined for 3.5 defensive point shares while Nick Seeler and Emil Andrea have combined for 2.5 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Moreover, Dan Vladar has been incredible with 3.4 goals saved above average and has allowed only four goals in the last two starts.

Hurricanes vs Flyers Pick

Money Line Pick For Hurricanes vs Flyers

  • Hurricanes (-150) (4 units)

The Flyers are having a great season and look to step up on their home ice but they are running into the best team in the Metropolitan Division which looks to take over this game. The Hurricanes, who have scored 14 goals in the last four games, should create plenty of scoring chances with Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with effective puck movement. The Hurricanes, who allow only 2.80 goals per game, should limit the Flyers offense, which averages only 2.83 goals per game, with Alexander Nikishin, Mike Reilly, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Pyotr Kotchetkov to make plenty of big saves. The Hurricanes should win the game with a strong performance on the road.

Take the Hurricanes money line as road Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Hurricanes vs Flyers

  • Under 6 (5 Units)

The Flyers and Hurricanes have great defenses that look to make this game a low-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Flyers, who have allowed only nine goals in the last four games, should limit the Hurricanes offense with Travis Sanheim, Jamie Drysdale, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Dan Vladar to make plenty of big saves. The Hurricanes, who have allowed only three goals in the last two games, should eliminate the Flyers offense, which has scored only eight goals in the last three games, with Alexander Nikishin, Mike Reilly, Jalen Chatfield, and the rest of the defensive unit forcing turnovers in all three zones while Pyotr Kotchetkov steps up in the net and blanks the shots. The Under should cover in a low-scoring game with both defenses stepping up.

Take the Under on 6 goals.

The Hurricanes face the Flyers with both teams looking to remain near the top of the Metropolitan Division.
