Chicago is missing its best player

The Chicago Blackhawks will play without Connor Bedard, who is expected to be out until at least the 23rd of December. Chicago is 21st in goals for average at 2.9 and 15th in goals against at 3.0. Chicago averages 25.5 (26th) shots per game and allows an average of 30.5 (28th). Chicago is 10th in the power play, scoring 22.2% of the time with the man advantage, while the penalty kill is 6th, holding opponents scoreless 84% of the time when shorthanded.

Bedard leads Chicago in goals with 19, assists with 25, and points with 44, all of which will be tough for any one player to match in his absence. Tyler Bertuzzi is second in goals scored with 16 and second in points with 26. Frank Nazar is second in assists with 15.  The Blackhawks have four players with 20 points or more. Chicago has scored 20 goals on the power play in 32 games. Chicago goalie Spencer Knight is 10-7-5 with a 2.52 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Chicago has alternated wins and losses in each of Knight’s last seven appearances.

Injuries: Chicago will play without Connor Bedard, Nick Foligno, and Shea Weber.

Spread Pick for Blackhawks vs. Maple Leafs

  • Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (4 units)

Chicago has a solid goalie in net in Spencer Knight, who has a 2.52 goals against average, but at the other end of the ice, the Blackhawks are only 21st in goals-for average and will be without their best overall player, Connor Bedard, who leads Chicago in goals (19), assists (25), and points (44). The second leading point producer for Chicago is Tyler Bertuzzi, but he has just 26. Chicago has lost four of its last five, including the first game that Bedard missed with his injury, and the Blackhawks have dropped five of their last six on the road. Toronto has won five of its last seven against the team from the Central Division. The Maple Leafs are 7th in goals for average at 3.3 and have a strong penalty kill that is 10th in the NHL. Even when Bedard is healthy, Chicago has only 2.9 goals for average, and that is likely to drop in his absence.

Over/Under Pick for Chicago Blackhawks at Toronto Maple Leafs

  • Under 6 (4 units)

The total has finished under in four of Chicago's last six games, and as mentioned previously, Connor Bedard, who is the leading point producer for the Blackhawks, will not play. The total has finished under 5 of Toronto's last six games and in four of Toronto's last five games played at home. Chicago goalie Spencer Knight has a respectable 2.52 against average and Toronto goalie Dennis Hildeby has a 2.72 GAA.
