Use Code WWWC Chicago Blackhawks (5-4-2) vs. Edmonton Oilers (5-4-3)
The 2025-26 NHL betting action continues Saturday, November 1, with the Chicago Blackhawks facing off against the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference showdown at Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB, and we’ve got the Blackhawks vs. Oilers prediction along with the latest team stats, news, and odds update.
Chicago and Edmonton start their three-game regular-season series. The Oilers have won eight of their previous nine encounters with the Blackhawks, and six of those nine contests have gone over the total.
Let’s take a closer look at this Blackhawks vs. Oilers prediction, one of our NHL picks for Saturday’s card. The Oilers are surefire -295 moneyline favorites with a total of 6.5 goals, and the puck drop is set at 10:00 PM ET.
The Blackhawks are off to a decent start
Nobody’s expecting to see the Chicago Blackhawks in the postseason, so five wins and 12 points out of their first 11 games certainly count as a success. The Blackhawks score 3.27 goals per game (17th in the NHL) and surrender 2.82 goals in return (tied for 11th).

Chicago has won three of its previous five contests overall. The Blackhawks started their six-game road trip last Thursday, suffering a 6-3 defeat at the Winnipeg Jets. Winnipeg outshot Chicago 32-24 on the night and fully deserved to win.
Spencer Knight guarded the cage against the Jets, allowing six goals on 32 shots. He fell to 4-3-1 on the young season. Knight holds a solid 2.59 GAA and a .914 save percentage, while Arvid Soderblom is 1-1-1 with an underwhelming 3.01 GAA and a .888 save percentage.
Connor Bedard leads the way for the Blackhawks with six goals and eight assists, while Frank Nazar has amassed five goals and six dishes so far this season. Winger Ilya Mikheyev (G3, A2) and center Jason Dickinson (G1, A2) are both questionable for Saturday’s game against Edmonton.
The Oilers continue to struggle
The Edmonton Oilers are considered one of the strongest favorites to win the Stanley Cup, so they are arguably one of the biggest disappointments of the season. The Oilers have dropped seven of their first 12 games. They are 18th in the NHL in goals for (3.17 per game) and 20th in goals against (also 3.17).
The Oilers have only won one of their previous four games overall. Last Thursday, Edmonton blew a 3-1 lead in a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers. The Oilers barely outshot the Rangers 36-35, and Darnell Nurse scored a couple of goals, but it wasn’t enough.
Stuart Skinner posted 31 saves last Thursday. He’s now 3-3-2 with a 2.59 GAA and a .896 save percentage on the season, while Calvin Pickard is 2-1-1 with an ugly 3.50 GAA and a .846 save percentage.
Len Draisaitl (G8, A6) and Connor McDavid (G3, A11) lead the charge for the Oilers, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has accounted for five goals and seven assists thus far. The Oilers miss winger Kasperi Kapanen (A2), while fellow winger Zach Hyman is still recovering from a wrist injury. Hyman should make his season debut next week.
Blackhawks vs. Oilers Pick
Spread Pick for Blackhawks vs. Oilers
- Chicago Blackhawks +1.5 (5 units)
The Oilers will start improving sooner rather than later. Until that happens, I don’t see value on the Oilers in games like this one. Edmonton is 3-9 against the spread this season, and the Oilers have beaten the puckline just once in their previous five meetings with the Blackhawks.
Hereof, I will hold my nose and take the Blackhawks at the puckline. Chicago ranks ninth in the league in penalty killing (85.1%), and Spencer Knight has been solid in most of his starts. Stuart Skinner has been shaky, and the Oilers’ defense leaves a lot to be desired.
Over/Under Pick for Blackhawks vs. Oilers
- Under 6.5 (5 units)
Both teams need to tighten things up. The Blackhawks’ defense has been solid in general, but that performance against the Jets was bad. On the other side, the Oilers allowed three unanswered goals to the Rangers. Edmonton desperately needs more from its defense.
The Oilers’ top two lines are full of dangerous weapons. The Blackhawks know that they have to be responsible at the back, remain patient, and wait for their chances. Of course, Spencer Knight needs to bring his best game. I would take the under in this game.
