Colorado is dominant across the board

The Avalanche are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 4.20 goals per game. Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas have scored 19 goals and 25 assists to lead the top line, but the rest of the offense has been great as well. Artturi Lehkonen, Ross Colton, and Victor Olofsson have combined for 19 goals and 26 assists, while defenseman Cale Makar has added eight goals and 20 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been incredible, while the defense has also been the best in the NHL, allowing only 2.40 goals per game. Cale Makar and Devon Toews have combined for 3.8 defensive point shares, while Sam Malinski and Josh Manson have combined for 2.5 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. With the Avalanche playing the second game of a back-to-back, the hope is that Mackenzie Blackwood steps up as he’s struggled with a .870 save percentage and a 3.28 goals-against average on 77 shots with -2.0 goals saved above average.

Key injury report for Avalanche

  • Valeri Nichushkin (lower body) is week-to-week. He has five goals and seven assists.

Blackhawks have stepped up on both ends

The Blackhawks are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.29 goals per game. Connor Bedard and Tyler Bertuzzi have 25 goals and 25 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Andre Burakovsky, Frank Nazar, and Teuvo Teravainen have combined for 17 goals and 28 assists while defensemen Louie Crevier and Artyom Levshunov have added two goals and 19 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has carried them but the defense has stepped up as well, allowing only 2.86 goals per game. Wyatt Kaiser and Matt Grzelcyk have combined for 2.6 defensive point shares while Sam Rinzel and Louie Crevier have combined for 1.9 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Spencer Knight has stepped up with a .922 save percentage and a 2.47 goals-against average on 450 shots with 11.5 goals saved above average.

Key injury report for Blackhawks

  • Nick Foligno (hand) was placed on injured reserve. He had six assists.

Avalanche vs Blackhawks Pick

Money Line Pick For Avalanche vs Blackhawks

  • Avalanche -1.5 (+120) (4 units)

The Avalanche look like the best team in the NHL, and I see them taking over this game from the first period. The Avalanche should pile on the goals with Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Avalanche, who allow only 2.40 goals per game, should limit the Blackhawks offense with Cale Makar, Devon Toews, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood to make plenty of big saves. The Avalanche should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on the road.

Over/Under Pick For Avalanche vs Blackhawks

  • Over 6.5 (5 Units)

The Avalanche and Blackhawks have great offenses, and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Blackhawks, who average 3.29 goals per game, should constantly find the back of the net with Connor Bedard, Tyler Bertuzzi, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Spencer Knight to make plenty of big saves. The Avalanche, who average 4.20 goals per game, should run up the score with Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, Ross Colton, and the rest of the forward unit overwhelming the Blackhawks defense with speed in all three zones while creating open shots with effective puck movement as Cale Makar picks apart the Blackhawks defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6.5 goals.

The Avalanche head to Chicago to face the Blackhawks with both teams looking to improve in the Central Division.
