The Avalanche aim for their fourth straight W
The Colorado Avalanche are off to a strong start to the 2025-26 season despite missing their starting goalie, Mackenzie Blackwood, due to a lower-body injury. The Avs have won five of their first six contests, with their lone defeat coming against the Dallas Stars 5-4 in a shootout.

Colorado is riding a three-game winning streak. After a couple of road wins over the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 and the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1, the Avalanche beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 at home this past Saturday.
The Avs outshot the Bruins 38-14 on the night. Nathan MacKinnon scored a couple of goals, Artturi Lehkonen made three assists, and Scott Wedgewood posted 13 stops. The Avs went 0-for-5 with the man advantage, and they’ve only converted three of their 25 power-play opportunities so far this season.
Wedgewood boasts a 1.48 GAA and a .938 save percentage, and the veteran netminder should get another starting call when the Avs visit the Mammoth. MacKinnon leads the way for the Avs with six goals and four assists, while Martin Necas has four goals and six dishes on his season tally.
The Mammoth have won three straight, too
The Utah Mammoth are also coming off a home clash against the Boston Bruins. Last Sunday, the Mammoth outlasted the Bruins 3-2, overcoming a 2-1 deficit in the process. Logan Cooley, Clayton Keller, and Dylan Guenther scored a goal each, while Nick Schmaltz had two assists.
It was Utah’s third win a row. The Mammoth started a four-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames this past Wednesday. Two days later, the Mammoth defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-3, and Schmaltz led the charge with three goals and an assist.
Schmaltz now has three goals and six assists in 2025-26, while Keller has amassed five assists and two goals. The Mammoth have struggled with the man advantage, too, going 3-for-25, and they’ve allowed six power-play goals on 23 opportunities.
Vitek Vanecek guarded the cage against Boston, allowing two goals on 26 shots. Karel Vejmelka is expected to return to the crease on Tuesday night, and the 29-year-old goaltender is 3-1-0 with a strong 2.00 GAA and a .912 save percentage this season.
Avalanche vs. Mammoth Pick
Moneyline Pick for Avalanche vs. Mammoth
- Colorado Avalanche (5 units)
Utah outshot Colorado 33-27 in their previous meeting, but Scott Wedgewood had a big night in the crease. Ross Colton and Nathan MacKinnon found the back of the net for the Avalanche, while Dylan Guenther scored for the Mammoth.
The Mammoth’s top two lines are very dangerous, but Colorado is arguably a deeper team than Utah. Moreover, the Avalanche have only allowed two power-play goals on 16 opportunities so far this season. Utah is certainly capable of upsetting the odds in this matchup, but I can only look at the Avs, whose defense has done a great job thus far.
Over/Under Pick for Avalanche vs. Mammoth
- Under 6.0 (5 units)
The first meeting of the season between Utah and Colorado was a proper low-scoring affair. The Avalanche have only allowed three goals over their previous three outings, and five of their six games this season have produced fewer than six goals in total. Five of Utah’s six contests have seen fewer than six goals on the scoreboard, too.
I would ride these betting trends, though these two teams will get things going with the man advantage sooner rather than later. Anyway, both bluelines are loaded with talent, and I expect a solid performance from both Scott Wedgewood and Karel Vejmelka.
