Winnipeg Jets vs San Jose Sharks prediction
Colorado brings the NHL's hottest early offense into Canada Life Centre on Wednesday for a Central Division matchup with Winnipeg. The Avalanche are 2-0 after scoring 14 goals in their first two games, tying a franchise record for goals through the opening two contests. Winnipeg is 2-0-1 and has taken five of six available points while allowing only four goals across its last two victories. The contrast is straightforward: Colorado's explosive attack against a Jets team that has made defending its early identity.
The betting market strongly favors Colorado. The Avalanche were around -186 in the morning snapshot and remain roughly -175 to -180 across the current market, with Winnipeg around +160. That standard moneyline is too expensive for the publication price rule, but Colorado -1.5 remains available around +135 to +140. The puck line therefore becomes the more useful way to back the Avalanche without paying a prohibitive favorite price.

Colorado Avalanche Betting Analysis

Colorado's start has been driven by the players bettors would expect. Nathan MacKinnon has five points through two games, Artturi Lehkonen has scored three goals and Cale Makar has three points from the blue line. The Avalanche followed an 8-4 opening win with a 6-1 victory over St. Louis, and the second performance was more impressive because Colorado controlled the game without needing another chaotic shootout.
The roster remains unusually difficult to match because the Avalanche can separate their best forwards across multiple lines. MacKinnon and Martin Necas headline the first unit, while Gabriel Landeskog, Brock Nelson and Nazem Kadri give Colorado another veteran scoring line. Makar and Devon Toews remain the foundation on defense, with enough puck-moving support behind them to keep Colorado attacking in waves.
Colorado also showed last season that its style travels. The Avalanche led the NHL with 29 road wins in 2025-26. That does not guarantee anything in the first road game of a new season, but it matters when evaluating whether a large favorite is likely to lose a meaningful part of its advantage away from Denver. This is a team comfortable playing aggressively on the road.

Winnipeg Jets Betting Analysis

Winnipeg's 2-0-1 start has been built differently. The Jets beat Detroit 3-2 and Pittsburgh 3-2 after opening with an overtime loss, and coach Scott Arniel has emphasized defending as the team's identity. Kyle Connor has three goals and five points, Cole Perfetti has five points and Josh Morrissey has three assists, giving Winnipeg enough skill to convert the chances its defensive structure creates.
The major organizational story remains the crease. Connor Hellebuyck did not report to training camp after requesting a trade and was suspended, forcing Winnipeg to build a new goalie plan. Stuart Skinner has handled two of the first three games and has a .918 save percentage through the early schedule, while Clay Stevenson stopped 29 of 31 shots in Monday's win at Pittsburgh.
Winnipeg's ability to protect the middle is the reason this is not an automatic Colorado play at any price. The Jets have allowed only four goals over their two wins, and home ice should help Arniel get favorable matchups against Colorado's top six. If Winnipeg can keep the game at five-on-five and force the Avalanche to attack through layers, it has a realistic chance to stay within one goal.

Avalanche vs Jets Matchup Outlook

The problem for Winnipeg is the amount of pressure Colorado can generate before a defense gets set. The Avalanche have been devastating off the rush, and their defensemen are active enough to turn a failed Jets exit into another immediate attack. Winnipeg can defend well for long stretches and still find itself chasing if MacKinnon or Makar creates one transition sequence that breaks the structure.
Colorado's 14 goals are not a sustainable scoring pace, but the underlying roster explains why the ceiling is so high. This is not simply an early shooting-percentage spike from an otherwise average attack. The Avalanche have elite creators, elite finishers and a defense corps designed to keep possession alive. Winnipeg's early defensive results deserve respect, but this is its hardest test yet.
The moneyline price removes the simplest Colorado wager. Rather than laying close to -180, the better approach is to accept the additional variance of the puck line for a plus-money return. Empty-net situations also matter here. If Winnipeg trails late, it will have to pull its goalie, giving Colorado another route to cover even if the game is competitive for 55 minutes.

Best Bet

Best Bet: Colorado Avalanche -1.5 at +135 or better
Winnipeg is good enough defensively to make this uncomfortable, but Colorado's offensive ceiling and ability to create separation make the plus-money puck line preferable to the expensive moneyline. The Avalanche have already shown they can turn a close game into a multi-goal result quickly, and the price compensates bettors for taking on that extra goal of risk.
Prediction: Colorado Avalanche 4, Winnipeg Jets 2
