Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Calgary Flames Picks and Prediction for Wednesday, November 5, 2025
Use Code WWWC Columbus Blue Jackets (7-5-0) vs. Calgary Flames (3-9-2)
The 2025-26 NHL season continues Wednesday, November 5, with five games around the league, including the cross-conference showdown at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, AB, so we’ve got the Blue Jackets vs. Flames prediction.
Columbus meets Calgary for the first time this term. They split a two-game set last season, with each team emerging victorious on the home ice. The Blue Jackets beat the Flames 5-2, while Calgary blanked Columbus 3-0 in front of the home fans.
Let’s take a closer look at this Blue Jackets vs. Flames prediction, one of our NHL picks for Wednesday’s slate. The puck drop is set at 9:30 PM ET, and the Blue Jackets are slight -115 moneyline favorites with a total of 6.0 goals.
The Blue Jackets’ win streak is over
The Columbus Blue Jackets put an end to their four-game winning streak this past Sunday. Playing on the second day of a back-to-back, the Blue Jackets suffered a 3-2 defeat at the New York Islanders to start a five-game road trip.

During their winning streak, the Jackets have scored 17 goals. Against the Islanders, Columbus took just 22 shots and blew a 2-1 lead. Elvis Merzlikins gave up three goals on 39 shots, falling to 4-2-0 on the season.
Merzlikins holds a 2.98 GAA and a .917 save percentage, while Jet Greaves is 3-3-0 with a 2.68 GAA and a .916 save percentage in 2025-26. The Blue Jackets allow 3.00 goals per game (tied for 15th in the NHL) and score 3.25 goals in return (13th).
Winger Kirill Marchenko leads the way for Columbus with five goals and seven assists, while fellow winger Dmitri Voronkov has accounted for five goals and five assists so far this season. Defensemen Denton Mateychuk and Erik Gudbranson are doubtful for Wednesday’s clash against Calgary.
The Flames desperately need more from their offense
The Calgary Flames just finished a four-game road trip with a 1-2-1 record. After consecutive defeats against the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3, the Ottawa Senators 4-3 in a shootout, and the Nashville Predators 4-2, the Flames outlasted the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 this past Sunday.
The Flames outshot the Flyers 21-18 on the night and fully deserved to win. Jonathan Huberdeau scored a couple of goals to increase his season tally to seven points, while Dustin Wolf posted 17 saves, advancing to 3-8-1 on the season.
Wolf holds a troublesome 3.39 GAA and a .884 save percentage, while Devin Cooley is 0-1-1 with a 1.98 GAA and a .933 save percentage this season. The Flames allow 3.36 goals per game (24th in the NHL) and score just 2.14 goals in return (32nd). They are dead last in the league in shooting percentage (7.7%).
Nazem Kadri is the Flames’ leading scorer with 10 points (G3, A7) in 14 games, but the veteran center has a minus-7 net rating. The Flames have no injury worries ahead of the Blue Jackets game.
Blue Jackets vs. Flames Pick
Moneyline Pick for Blue Jackets vs. Flames
- Calgary Flames (5 units)
This game is a nice opportunity for the Flames to get things going up front. Interestingly, the Flames rank sixth in the NHL in high-danger scoring opportunities (56.8%), but their shooting has been horrendous thus far.
The Blue Jackets are not a great defensive team by any stretch of the imagination, and they will probably miss two defensemen on Wednesday night. Both teams struggle to defend with a man down, especially Columbus, so I’m backing the Flames to come out on top.
Over/Under Pick for Blue Jackets vs. Flames
- Over 6.0 (5 units)
Both teams have allowed 12 power-play goals thus far. The Blue Jackets are 30th in the NHL in penalty killing (66.7%), while the Flames rank 19th in this category (77.4%). Just one team has allowed more power-play opportunities than Calgary.
Hereof, I’m going with the over despite the Flames’ offensive woes. As I said, it’s hard to trust the Blue Jackets’ defense and goaltending. Elvis Merzlikins hasn’t impressed so far, and Dustin Wolf is far away from his 2024-25 form. Wolf boasted a 2.64 GAA and a .910 save percentage last season.
