Use Code WWWC Dallas Stars (1-0-0) vs. Colorado Avalanche (2-0-0)
The Dallas Stars head to Ball Arena in Denver, CO, on Saturday night to face off against the Colorado Avalanche in the Central Division showdown, so we have prepared the Stars vs. Avalanche prediction to get you covered.
It’s a rematch of the 2025 Stanley Cup First Round, when the Stars eliminated the Avalanche in seven games. They met three times this past regular season, and the Avalanche took two out of three from the Stars.
Now, let’s take a closer look at this Stars vs. Avalanche prediction, one of our NHL picks for Saturday’s 16-game card. Colorado is a -130 moneyline fave with a total of 6.0 goals, and the puck drop is set at 9:00 PM ET.
The Stars edged Winnipeg in their season opener
The Dallas Stars started the season last Thursday, outlasting the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 on the road. The Stars beat the reigning Presidents’ Trophy winners in a pick ‘em contest, which flew over the 5.5-goal line.

Dallas outshot Winnipeg 37-25 on the night and fully deserved to win. However, the Stars nearly blew a 5-1 lead in the third period. They allowed a couple of shorthanded goals, so there’s a lot of room for improvement. Keep in mind that Dallas has a new head coach in Glen Gulutzan.
The Stars went 1-for-5 with the man advantage at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg. Five guys found the back of the net, and Mikko Rantanen led the way with a goal and two assists. Jake Oettinger guarded the cage, allowing four goals on 25 shots.
Oettinger has been one of the best netminders in the league over the last four years. Last season, he went 36-18-4 with a 2.59 GAA and .909 save percentage. The Stars finished second in the Central Division with 106 points before losing in the Western Conference Final for the third straight year.
The Avalanche aim for their third straight W
The Colorado Avalanche have already played two games in the opening week of the 2025-26 NHL season. After a 4-1 road victory over the Los Angeles Kings in their season opener, the Avs outlasted the Utah Mammoth 2-1 at home this past Thursday.
The Avalanche dominated the Kings and had a 4-0 lead midway through the third period. Martin Necas scored a couple of goals, Nathan MacKinnon posted two assists, and Scott Wedgewood gave up one goal on 25 shots. The Avs converted just one of their six power-play opportunities.
Against the Mammoth, Wedgewood posted 32 saves. Ross Colton gave the Avs a 1-0 lead, while Nathan MacKinnon converted one of Colorado’s four power-play opportunities to break a tie in the third period.
Mackenzie Blackwood is dealing with a lower-body injury, so Wedgewood should get another starting call when the Stars come to town. Last season, Wedgewood went 14-6-2 with a 2.32 GAA and a .908 save percentage between Nashville and Colorado, and the Avs were third in the Central Division with 102 points.
Stars vs. Avalanche Pick
Moneyline Pick for Stars vs. Avalanche
- Colorado Avalanche (5 units)
This game will be a joy to watch, and frankly, it could easily go either way. It’s hard to separate these two teams. Just take a look at their 2025 playoff series.
I would like to take the Stars because of Jake Oettinger, but Scott Wedgewood has done a great job for the Avs over the last few days. Both teams have a ton of talent up front, and it’s impossible to say whose blueline is better.
Hereof, I’m going with the Avs because of their home-ice advantage. Also, Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas make one of the best forward duos in the NHL, while Cale Makar is arguably the best scoring defenseman in the league. The Avs have won four of their last five home games against the Stars.
Over/Under Pick for Stars vs. Avalanche
- Over 6.0 (5 units)
The Avs have only allowed two goals through their first two showings in 2025-26. As I said, Scott Wedgewood has been nothing short of spectacular, but he’ll have a tall task to hold the Stars to just one goal.
The 2024-25 regular season saw three proper high-scoring encounters between Dallas and Colorado. The Stars won 5-3 at home, and the Avs recorded a couple of home wins, 6-3 and 4-3 in overtime. The over has hit in eight of the previous nine regular-season meetings between these two foes.
