Buffalo Looking to Pick Up Home Win
Buffalo saw their two-game win streak snapped as they were doubled up on the road by Montreal in their previous contest. The Sabres enter this game 2-4-0 on the year and stand tied for sixth in the Atlantic Division, six points behind Detroit and Montreal for the top spot. For the season, Buffalo is tied for 27th in offense as they are averaging 2.50 goals per game on the season. The Sabres are tied for 16th in the league in goals against as they allow three goals per contest this year. Buffalo is 6th in power play success as they cash in 26.3% of their chances with the man advantage. The Sabres are 2nd in the league in penalty killing as they successfully get through 95.8% of their shorthanded situations on the year.
Against Montreal, Buffalo couldnโt maintain their success and saw their two-game win streak snapped in the process. The Sabres were outshot 14-6 in the opening period and trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of action. In the second period, Buffalo owned an 11-4 shot advantage and scored the lone goal of the period to tie the game at the second intermission. Jiri Kulich tied the game with his second goal of the season at 6:51 off an assist from Zach Benson. The third period saw Buffalo with a 15-13 shot advantage but was outscored 3-1 to wind up with the loss. Buffalo gave up a pair of goals to trail 3-1 before Tyson Kozak got the Sabres within a goal with his first goal of the year at 12:30 off assists from Jack Quinn and Rasmus Dahlin. That was as close as the Sabres would get as they gave up an empty net goal in the final minute to seal the result. Alex Lyon made 27 saves for Buffalo, who held a 32-31 edge in shots, in the loss. Lyon (2-4-0, 2.55 GAA, .924 save percentage, shutout) is expected to get the start in goal again here.

Left wing Jordan Greenway (lower body) and defenseman Michael Kesselring (undisclosed) are out until mid-to-late October. Defenseman Jacob Bryson (concussion) and left wing Beck Malenstyn (personal) are both questionable here.
Red Wings vs. Sabres Pick
Red Wings vs. Sabres Moneyline Pick
- Red Wings +100
Detroit comes in with five straight wins, including wins over both Stanley Cup finalists, a pair of victories over Toronto and one over Tampa Bay. The Red Wings have been clicking of late and they have taken seven of the last 10 meetings with the Sabres. Buffalo had won two straight but struggled against Montreal last night and the Red Wings are familiar with Lyon as he played in the Motor City the last two years, posting a 35-27-6 mark with a 2.96 GAA, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts in 74 appearances, 69 starts, for the Red Wings. The Sabres have had their issues offensively, being held to two goals or less in four of their six games on the year. As a result, the Red Wings have too much firepower and skate away with the road victory.
Red Wings vs. Sabres Over/Under Pick
- Under 6.5 (-130)
Detroit has stayed under the number in three of their six games, with two pushes, this season as they have seen an average of 5.67 goals a night and that number slipped to just five goals in their lone road game, which came against Toronto on October 13. The Red Wings had an average of 6.02 goals per game last season, and that number plummeted to 5.88 goals per game on the ground. Buffalo stayed under the total in four of their six games, with one push, this season. The Sabres have an average total of 5.50 goals per game, and that number climbs to 5.75 goals per game at home, though that number is heavily boosted by their 8-4 win over Ottawa October 15. Last season, the Sabres had an average total of 6.73 goals per game and that number edged down slightly to 6.66 goals per game on home ice. Buffalo struggles to score and the Red Wings are content to play in a defensive type of game, keeping this under the total.
