Detroit Red Wings vs Colorado Avalanche Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Saturday November 7 2026
Red Wings vs. Avalanche Game Preview
Colorado's offense makes the favorite attractive, but the moneyline comes with a familiar problem. The Avalanche are priced around -225, too expensive for our recommended moneyline ceiling. Detroit has enough ability to score that I am also reluctant to demand a two-goal Colorado win without looking at other markets. A goals total gives us another way to use the matchup without paying for a straight favorite.
The comparison board had Over 6.5 at +100 through FanDuel. Colorado is producing about four goals per game, one of the highest marks in the league, and allowing roughly 3.2. Detroit is closer to 2.8 for and 2.9 against. Those averages are not a predictive model by themselves. But they outline a game in which a 5-3 home victory is a realistic path, and that score would cash an Over 6.5 ticket.
Colorado Can Set the Scoring Pace
The Avalanche have been 6-1-2 at Ball Arena and 9-6-2 overall. Their home form is stronger than their combined record would suggest, and an offense averaging about four goals gives them the ability to change the game quickly after a slow opening. Colorado doesn't need to lead at the first intermission to finish with four or five. One successful power play and a dangerous second period could do much of the work.
The concern is that a high-scoring team can still play a defensive, low-event night when the schedule demands it. Colorado has allowed more than three per game, but that doesn't mean it wants to trade chances. If the Avalanche jump to a 2-0 lead, they may prefer a patient 3-1 result. A total wager needs Detroit to help, or Colorado to keep attacking when it already has a comfortable advantage.
Mackenzie Blackwood is the leading Colorado goalie projection. His early numbers include an .893 save percentage and 2.81 goals-against average, which are not dominant enough to dismiss a Detroit goal or two. Josh Manson is listed out on defense, another possible opening for the visiting attack. The Avalanche remain the better team; the question is whether the more open game script is sufficiently likely at even money.
Detroit's Personnel Situation Makes the Result Harder to Price
Detroit arrives at 7-7-3 with a 3-2-2 road record. Those results are not overwhelming, but they show a club capable of taking games beyond regulation. The most important personnel note is Dylan Larkin's suspension. Removing a top forward affects offensive creation, faceoffs and minutes against difficult opponents. It weakens the argument for Detroit to win outright, even if the Wings have other ways to score.
The projected starter for Detroit is Daniil Tarasov, with early numbers around .929 and 1.79 goals-against average. Those are far better than the typical opponent's goalie figures in a high-total game. It is the biggest caution sign against this over selection. If Tarasov plays at that level and Colorado becomes patient with the puck, a seven-goal target may be ambitious. A different Detroit starter would substantially change the analysis.
Detroit's injury report also includes Albert Johansson, while Colorado has its own defensive absence. The Wings' better route is to create isolated chances and finish them efficiently, not to outshoot the Avalanche by fifteen. There is a plausible 5-3 home win here, but also a plausible 3-1 result if the visiting goaltender takes over. The spread between those outcomes makes the price the deciding factor.
NHL Odds and Line Movement
Colorado's moneyline was roughly -225 at DraftKings, with Detroit available near +200 elsewhere. I would not recommend laying that Colorado number, and I won't call the Red Wings a value play without stronger support. Over 6.5 at +100 was the FanDuel reference quote. At even money the break-even requirement is 50%; a move to -130 would make the same handicap far less appealing.
The total is not a prediction that both teams will score their season averages. Detroit could struggle without Larkin, and a strong Tarasov performance would turn an open-game projection into a bad bet quickly. The plus-money quote is worth considering because Colorado can do much of the scoring, but I need confirmation of the two starters before treating the over as a live recommendation.
Red Wings vs. Avalanche Best Bet and Prediction
Colorado has enough offense to do most of the scoring, and Detroit can still create chances even with Larkin unavailable. This is not my strongest play, chiefly because Tarasov's early goalie numbers threaten to slow everything down. But at even money I prefer the total to paying a steep price for a home win that the market already expects.
Best Bet: Over 6.5 total goals (+100 at FanDuel reference, or better).
Score Prediction: Colorado Avalanche 5, Detroit Red Wings 3.
