The Red Wings aim for their third straight win
The Detroit Red Wings are off to a strong start to the 2025-26 season. They won five of their first six games before dropping consecutive games on the road against the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 and the New York Islanders 7-2. After that, the Red Wins met St. Louis twice, beating the Blues 6-4 at home and 5-2 on the road.

Last Saturday, the Red Wings scored six unanswered goals to overcome a 4-0 deficit against the Blues. Three days later, the Red Wings needed just 20 shots to score five goals versus St. Louis, and center Dylan Larkin led the way with two goals and an assist.
John Gibson has guarded the cage in five of Detroit’s previous six games. The 32-year-old netminder is 4-2-0 with a 3.20 GAA and a .876 save percentage this season, while Cam Talbot is 3-1-0 with a 2.98 GAA and a .890 save percentage.
The Red Wings allow 3.10 goals per game (tied for 19th in the NHL) and score 3.50 goals in return (tied for 10th). Larkin has been nothing short of spectacular so far this season, with eight goals and eight assists in 10 games, while winger Alex DeBrincat has amassed eight assists and a couple of goals. Winger Patrick Kane (G2, A3) missed five straight games with an injury and is questionable for Thursday’s clash against LA.
The Kings eye the third straight W, too
The Los Angeles Kings just finished a five-game road trip with a 4-0-1 record. After a couple of overtime wins at the St. Louis Blues 2-1 and the Dallas Stars 3-2 and a 5-4 shootout loss against the Nashville Predators, the Kings strung together wins over the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 and the San Jose Sharks 4-3.
Last Tuesday, the Kings blew a 3-0 lead in San Jose. The Sharks outshot the Kings 40-14, but Los Angeles found a way to come out on top. Darcy Kuemper had a big game in the crease, four skaters found the back of the net, and defenseman Joel Edmundson notched two assists.
Kuemper advanced to 3-2-2 on the season, and the veteran goalie now holds a 2.81 GAA and a .895 save percentage. Anton Forsberg serves as a backup and carries a 2-1-1 record with a 3.19 GAA and a .894 save percentage.
The Kings allow 3.09 goals per game (tied for 17th in the NHL) and tally 2.91 goals in return (20th). Winger Adrian Kempe leads the charge with five goals and nine assists, while fellow wingers Quinton Byfield (G2, A6) and Kevin Fiala (G5, A3) have accounted for eight points each. Winger Warren Foegele is out with an upper-body injury.
Red Wings vs. Kings Pick
Moneyline Pick for Red Wings vs. Kings
- Detroit Red Wings (5 units)
The Kings just failed to beat the puckline at San Jose, and four of their previous six games have gone past regulation. The moneyline odds on the Kings are not attractive once more, so I will take a chance with the Red Wings.
Whoever gets the starting call for Detroit will allow his team to win this game. The Red Wings have been killing penalties at a high level, allowing just four power-play goals on 27 opportunities. On the other side, the Kings have allowed 11 power-play goals on 47 opportunities.
Dylan Larkin has done a great job this season, and the Red Wings have weapons to hurt the Kings. Detroit is seventh in the NHL in shooting percentage (12.7%), while LA ranks 22nd in this category (10.5%).
Over/Under Pick for Red Wings vs. Kings
- Over 5.5 (5 units)
The Kings gave up a whopping 40 shots to the Sharks last Tuesday. Darcy Kuemper is still considered one of the best goaltenders in the league, but the Kings’ defense doesn’t look sharp. As I mentioned, their penalty killing is awful, and just one team has allowed more power-play opportunities than Los Angeles.
Hereof, I’m backing the over. The Red Wings are not a great defensive team by any stretch of the imagination. They’ve allowed 17 goals over their previous four outings. The over has hit in six of the previous seven encounters between Detroit and LA.
