Oilers hope offense turns things around

The Oilers have turned a corner with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.10 goals per game with 15 goals in their last four games. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have scored 22 goals and 31 assists to lead the top two lines, but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well.  Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jack Roslovic, and Vasily Podkolzin have combined for 14 goals and 24 assists, while defensemen Evan Bouchard and Jake Walman have added 20 goals and 26 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great, but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.40 goals per game. Bouchard and Walman have combined for 2.0 defensive point shares, but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Stuart Skinner has struggled with a .891 save percentage and a 2.77 goals-against average on 350 shots with -1.5 goals saved above average.

Buffalo has been awful on defense

The Sabres are having a season to forget with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.78 goals per game. Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch have combined for 15 goals and 17 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only three skaters have five goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

Oilers vs Sabres Pick

Money Line Pick For Oilers vs Sabres

  • Oilers (-160) (4 units)

The Oilers have turned a corner in recent games and they look to take over this one from the first period. The Oilers, who average 3.10 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Oilers should limit the Sabres offense, which averages only 2.78 goals per game, with Evan Bouchard, Jake Walman, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Stuart Skinner to make plenty of big saves. The Oilers should win the game with a strong performance on the road.

Take the Oilers money line as road Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Oilers vs Sabres

  • Over 6.5 (5 Units)

The Oilers are led by their offense and this game looks to be a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Sabres should pile on the goals against the Oilers, who allow 3.40 goals per game, with Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Oilers, who have scored 15 goals in their last four games, should run up the score against the Sabres, who have allowed 26 goals in their last five games, with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with effective puck movement while defensemen Evan Bouchard and Jake Walman pick apart the Sabres from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game controlled by both offenses.

Take the Over on 6.5 goals.

The Oilers face the Sabres with both teams looking to improve on rocky starts to the season.
