Nashville Predators vs Edmonton Oilers prediction

Game Preview

Edmonton ends a three-game trip through the New York metropolitan area against New Jersey at Prudential Center on Tuesday. The Oilers are 11-2-2 after consecutive victories over the Islanders and Rangers, while the Devils stand at 9-5-0 after a productive western trip. New Jersey is a moderate home favorite, but Edmonton has been remarkably effective away from home. The matchup pits the Oilers' explosive transition attack against a Devils club that has recently improved its defensive coverage and added a major presence in goal.
The Oilers are seeking a sweep after beating the Islanders 4-0 and the Rangers 4-1. Sunday's victory at Madison Square Garden featured a goal and an assist from Connor McDavid, three points from Evan Bouchard, and two goals from Colton Dach. Matt Tomkins made 28 saves in his Edmonton debut. New Jersey's recent results include wins in Dallas and Vegas and a loss in Colorado, and the Devils return to their building with a chance to test themselves against one of the league's hottest offenses.

Edmonton Offensive Matchup

McDavid has opened the season with nine goals and 30 assists in 15 appearances, extending an assist streak to every game and driving an attack that has averaged roughly 4.2 goals. Leon Draisaitl has supplied another 28 points, while Bouchard has 26 from the blue line. Overplaying McDavid leaves room for Draisaitl's finishing or Bouchard's release, and passive coverage permits the puck to move too comfortably across the offensive zone.
The Oilers built leads against both New York teams and used their depth and improved defense to maintain separation. Dach's two-goal night against the Rangers showed the value of scoring beyond the main stars. Allowing a controlled McDavid entry is especially dangerous when his linemates arrive with speed and the defense is still retreating.

New Jersey Form and Defensive Matchups

Their 2-1 western trip included wins at Dallas and Vegas, and their broader recent stretch has featured five victories in six outings. Jack Hughes and Arseny Gritsyuk have provided important offense, with Gritsyuk scoring seven goals in a seven-game span. New Jersey has also emphasized more responsible positioning in its own zone. If the Devils prevent Edmonton from attacking the slot cleanly, they can turn the game into a battle of sustained possession instead of trading chances with the NHL's most dangerous playmaker.
Gritsyuk offers a direct scoring threat, while Hughes can exploit space created by New Jersey's puck carriers and defensemen. The hosts have enough talent to score several goals, but relying on a high-event game is risky when the opposing club's top players are producing at this rate.

Goaltending and Injuries

Connor Hellebuyck's arrival has changed New Jersey's goaltending outlook. He won his first two appearances with the club and stopped 36 of 39 shots across those games, providing a much-needed stabilizing option behind the Devils' developing defensive structure. He is a likely consideration for this matchup, but final starting assignments still require confirmation. His presence explains some of the market's respect for New Jersey and is the largest obstacle to backing an Edmonton side that would otherwise be difficult to price as an underdog.
Edmonton's crease is also worth monitoring. With Frederik Andersen injured and Devon Levi unavailable, Tristan Jarry is a leading candidate, while Tomkins played well in Sunday's win. The Oilers are also dealing with injuries involving Zack Hyman and Matt Savoie, limiting some forward combinations. Yet the team has allowed fewer than three goals per game on average, an improvement over its defensive results last season. That gives Edmonton a more credible route to victory even if Hellebuyck keeps the score manageable.

NHL Odds and Line Movement

New Jersey has been listed around -150 to -155 on the moneyline, with Edmonton near +130 at DraftKings. In a tracked multi-book comparison, the Devils moved from roughly -149 to -154 while the Oilers drifted from +124 to approximately +131. The game total is generally in the 6 to 6.5 range, depending on the sportsbook, and the Oilers' two recent low-scoring wins should not be confused with a sudden loss of offensive firepower.
At +130, an Edmonton ticket pays for the uncertainty created by New Jersey's home advantage and stronger-looking crease. The Devils may deserve favorite status, especially if Hellebuyck starts, but the gap implied by the current moneylines is substantial for a matchup involving an 11-2-2 team on a seven-game road winning streak. The recommendation is for the full-game moneyline, including any overtime or shootout result, at +130 or better.

Matchup Outlook and Best Bet

New Jersey's best opportunity is to slow the Oilers through its improved defensive-zone organization and force secondary forwards to beat Hellebuyck from less dangerous areas. Edmonton can counter by moving the puck quickly across the ice and asking the Devils' defensive pairs to make repeated coverage decisions.
A New Jersey victory would not be surprising, particularly if the hosts win the goalie matchup and limit penalties. The Oilers' scoring depth and exceptional road confidence, however, provide a reasonable case for the underdog. Edmonton has already demonstrated on this trip that it can defend a lead, and its power play can turn one New Jersey mistake into the decisive goal.
Best Bet: Edmonton Oilers moneyline (+130 at DraftKings; playable at +130 or better). The underdog return compensates for the risk of facing a more settled New Jersey defense and Hellebuyck, while Edmonton's offense and recent road wins support the upset case. Score Prediction: Edmonton Oilers 4, New Jersey Devils 3.
