The Oilers eye their third straight W
The Edmonton Oilers stopped their three-game slide last Tuesday, finishing a five-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators. The Oilers blew a two-goal lead, but Jake Walman’s power-play goal earned them two points.
Two days later, the Oilers edged the Montreal Canadiens 6-5. Edmonton blew a 3-1 lead before overcoming a 5-3 deficit in the final nine minutes of the third period. Six Oilers found the back of the net, including Leon Draisaitl, while Connor McDavid had three assists.
Calvin Pickard gave up five goals on 27 shots last Thursday. He’s now 2-1-0 with a poor 3.37 GAA and a .844 save percentage in 2025-26. Stuart Skinner is expected to patrol the crease in Seattle, and the 26-year-old netminder carries a 2-2-1 record with a 2.17 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
The Oilers allow 3.00 goals per game (tied for 15th in the NHL) and score 3.00 goals in return (tied for 16th). McDavid leads the way with 11 points (G1, A10) in eight games, while Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins have scored five goals each. Zach Hyman (wrist) is still on the IR and won’t make his season debut until November.
The Kraken’s shaky form continues
The Seattle Kraken just finished their six-game road trip with a 2-2-2 record. It’s been a bumpy road for the Kraken, who started their 2025-26 campaign with a couple of home wins over the Anaheim Ducks, 3-1 and the Vegas Golden Knights, 2-1 in overtime.
Seattle snapped a two-game skid last Thursday, blanking the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 as a +175 road dog. Joey Daccord posted 32 saves for his first shutout of the season, while Jaden Schwartz accounted for two goals and an assist. Schwartz gave Seattle a lead early in the second period, and the Kraken sealed the win with a couple of empty-netters.
Daccord advanced to 4-1-1 on the young season. He’s expected to guard the cage against the Oilers on Saturday night, and the 29-year-old goalie carries a 2.56 GAA and a .911 save percentage. The Kraken allow 2.75 goals per game (13th in the NHL) and score 2.75 goals in return (22nd).
Schwartz leads the way for Seattle with four goals and four assists in eight games, while Jordan Eberle has amassed two goals and four assists across eight appearances. Jared McCann (G3, A1) missed three straight games and is questionable for Saturday’s game, while both Brandon Montour (A4) and Frederick Gaudreau (A1) are on the IR.
Oilers vs. Kraken Pick
Spread Pick for Oilers vs. Kraken
- Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (5 units)
The Kraken just blanked the Jets, but I highly doubt their chances of slowing the Oilers down. Edmonton has dominated Seattle lately, winning nine of their previous 10 encounters. I will ride this betting trend and lean on the Oilers’ offense to make a difference.
Brandon Montour is a key part of Seattle’s blueline, and his absence is a huge blow for the Kraken. The Oilers are not a great defensive team by any means, but their offense is heating up. Edmonton is 7-for-25 with the man advantage (6th in the NHL), and Seattle is 15-for-21 with the man down (24th).
Over/Under Pick for Oilers vs. Kraken
- Over 6.0 (5 units)
The Kraken will try their best to slow things down in this matchup, but I’m not sure they will be able to do it. As I said, the Oilers are one of the most talented offensive teams in the league, so I’m going with the over.
Edmonton’s defense has been shaky so far this season, and Seattle will find a way to add to the scoreboard. Interestingly, 13 of their 15 encounters have produced at least six goals in total, including each of their four meetings in 2024-25.
