Philadelphia Looking to Win Home Opener

Philadelphia opened the season with a pair of road tilts and managed to procure a point Saturday night in Carolina. They now take the ice for their home opener here. The Flyers entered Sunday 0-1-1 on the year and stand seventh in the Metropolitan Division, three points behind Carolina, the Rangers, and Pittsburgh for the top spot. They look to avenge Thursday’s loss in Sunrise to the Panthers. Philadelphia comes into this game tied for 27th in the league in scoring offense, as they put up an average of two goals per game. The Flyers are tied for 12th in the league in goals against as they give up three goals per contest. Philadelphia is tied for 12th in power play success as they successfully convert on 20% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Flyers are tied for 8th in penalty killing as they have managed to navigate through 88.9% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Carolina Saturday, Philadelphia battled and managed to earn a point, but they ended up losing in overtime. The Hurricanes were outshot 15-6 in the opening period but skated off with a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard after the opening 20 minutes of play. Owen Tippett opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, on the power play at 19:38, with assists going to Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras. In the second period, the shots were even at 1,2 but the Flyers were outscored 3-1 to trail 3-2 at the second intermission. They gave up the next two goals to trail by a goal. In the third period, Philadelphia was outshot 11-5 but scored the lone goal of the period to even the score at the end of regulation. Travis Sanheim scored his first goal of the year at 16:00 off assists from Brink and Tyson Foerster. In overtime, the Flyers were outshot 1-0 and that shot found the back of the net, sending Philadelphia to loss. Samuel Ersson made 35 saves for Philadelphia, who was outshot 39-23, in the loss. Ersson (0-0-1, 3.71 GAA, .897 save percentage) is expected to get the start in goal here.

Panthers vs. Flyers Pick

Panthers vs. Flyers Moneyline Pick

  • Panthers -140

Florida rolled to three straight wins at home and now go on the road for the first time this season. The Panthers have been stingy in their own end of the ice, and their offense broke out with a half dozen goals against Ottawa Saturday night, even without Tkachuk and Barkov. Philadelphia earned a point Saturday against Carolina on the road and tries to avenge their loss in Sunrise last week. The problem for the Flyers is that they have been mediocre on both ends of the ic,e and they don’t have a great goaltending situation to work with either. Facing a Panthers’ squad that seemingly got untracked offensively is a bad mix for the Flyers. Look for Philadelphia to remain unbeaten by prevailing here.

Panthers vs. Flyers Over/Under Pick

  • Over 5.5 (-130)

Florida has seen the under hit in two of their three games this season. The Panthers have an average total of 5.33 goals per game on the year. Last season, the Panthers had an average total of 5.72 goals per game and that number climbs to 5.95 goals per game as the visiting team. Philadelphia has split their two games in relation to the total with an average of five goals per game. In 2024-25, the Flyers had an average total of 6.28 goals per game and that number slipped to 6.15 goals per game on home ice. We saw only three goals in the first meeting last week, snapping a string of three straight overs in the series. With Florida seemingly on track, this game winds up over the number.
