The 2025-26 NHL season goes on Monday, December 15, with the Los Angeles Kings facing off against the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference showdown at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, so we have prepared the Kings vs. Stars prediction to get you covered.
Los Angeles meets Dallas for the second time this season. Back in October, the Kings outlasted the Stars 3-2 in overtime, playing as +110 road underdogs with a total of 5.5 goals.
Let’s look closer at this Kings vs. Stars prediction, one of our NHL picks for Monday’s card. The Stars open as -150 home favorites with a total of 5.5 goals, and the puck drop is set at 8:00 PM ET.
The Kings hope to avoid the third straight L
The Los Angeles Kings have struggled lately, winning just four of their previous 12 games overall (4-3-5 record). In their last two showings, the Kings have recorded a couple of overtime defeats against the Seattle Kraken 3-2 on the road and the Calgary Flames 2-1 at home.

Last Saturday, the Kings took just 21 shots toward Calgary’s net. Adrian Kempe gave Los Angeles the lead with his 11th goal of the season, but the Flames outplayed the Kings and fully deserved to win. Darcy Kuemper gave up two goals on 38 shots and fell to 10-6-6 on the season.
Kuemper has a sturdy 2.21 GAA and a .916 save percentage, while Anton Forsberg is 4-2-3 with a 2.72 GAA and a .896 save percentage in 2025-26. The Kings allow 2.48 goals per game (3rd in the NHL) while scoring just 2.65 goals in return (28th).
Los Angeles desperately needs more from its offense. The Kings are dead last in the league in power-play percentage (13.7%) and 31st in shooting percentage (9.4%). Kempe leads the way with 28 points (G11, A17), while Kevin Fiala has amassed 11 goals and 11 assists.
The Stars hope to snap a two-game skid, too
The Dallas Stars put an end to their four-game winning streak last Thursday, suffering a 5-2 defeat at the Minnesota Wild. Two days later, the Stars completely fell apart in a 4-0 home loss against the Florida Panthers.
Dallas took just 18 shots toward Minnesota’s net, while Jake Oettinger yielded three goals on 30 shots, and the Wild sealed the win with a couple of empty-netters. Against Florida, the Stars had a paltry 15 shots, and Oettinger gave up three goals on 22 shots.
Oettinger is now 14-6-2 with a 2.54 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 2025-26, while Casey DeSmith carries a 7-1-3 record with a 2.23 GAA and a .920 save percentage. The Stars are sixth in the league in goals against (2.64 per game) and eighth in goals for (3.27).
Mikko Rantanen leads the charge for Dallas with 13 goals and 29 assists, while Jason Robertson has accounted for 20 goals and 20 assists. Tyler Seguin (G7, A10) is done for the season with a knee injury.
Kings vs. Stars Pick
Moneyline Pick for Kings vs. Stars
- Dallas Stars -133 (5 units)
The Stars’ offense has been awful over the last two games, and I cannot imagine them laying another egg, even though the Kings are a tough defensive team with a top-notch goalie in Darcy Kuemper. Dallas lost Tyler Seguin for the season, but the Stars’ top two lines are still loaded with talent. The Stars lead the NHL in shooting percentage (13.0%) and rank second in power-play percentage (32.0%).
Dallas is better than Los Angeles in penalty-killing, too. I expect the Stars to bounce back and hand the Kings their third straight loss. Dallas should be highly motivated to avenge that overtime loss from October.
Over/Under Pick for Kings vs. Stars
- Under 5.5 (5 units)
Dallas’ offense has struggled over the past two games, whereas the Kings have struggled to score for most of the season. I mentioned the Kings’ awful shooting percentage and a horrible power-play conversion.
The Kings heavily rely on their defense and Darcy Kuemper, who hasn’t allowed more than two goals in five straight starts (2-2-1 record). On the other side, Jake Oettinger is 3-2-0 with a shiny 1.81 GAA and a .930 save percentage in December.
Hereof, I have to take the under. Seven of the previous nine encounters between the Kings and Stars have gone under the total.
