Montreal is led by an incredible offense

The Canadiens are having a great season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.43 goals per game. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky have scored 118 goals and 148 assists while defenseman Lane Hutson has added 12 goals and 63 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been incredible but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.05 goals per game. Lane Hutson and Mike Matheson have combined for 10.4 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net. The bright spot has been the play of goaltender Jacob Fowler, who has allowed only five goals in his last three starts.

Islanders hope defense fuels playoff push

The Islanders are hoping to make a playoff push despite their offense letting them down and scoring only 2.87 goals per game. Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat have scored 49 goals and 78 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. The hope is that defenseman Matthew Schaefer gets the offense going as he’s scored 23 goals and 36 assists as the presumed Calder Trophy winner.

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.87 goals per game. Matthew Schaefer and Ryan Pulock have combined for 11.0 defensive point shares while Adam Pelech and Scott Mayfield have combined for 8.1 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. The hope is that goaltender Ilya Sorokin improves as he’s allowed 11 goals in his last three games.

Canadiens vs Islanders Pick

Money Line Pick For Canadiens vs Islanders

  • Canadiens (-110) (4 units)

The Canadiens are having an incredible season and look to secure the best record in their division so look for them to take over this game from the first period. The Canadiens should find the back of the net at will with Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and the rest of the forward unit controlling the puck in the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Canadiens should limit the Islanders, who average only 2.87 goals per game, with Lane Hutson, Mike Matheson, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in all three zones while goaltender Jacob Fowler, who has allowed only five goals in his last three starts, blanks the shots on the net. The Canadiens should win the game with strong performance on the road.

Take the Canadiens money line as road Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Canadiens vs Islanders

  • Over 6.5 (5 units)

The Canadiens have one of the best offenses in the NHL and this game looks to be a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Islanders should create plenty of scoring chances with Mathew Barzal, Bo Horvat, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Canadiens, who average 3.43 goals per game, should run up the score with Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with effective puck movement as Lane Hutson fires shots on the net from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6.5 goals.
