The Nashville Predators face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Predators are 28-26-8 and traded away a few depth players at the deadline as they sit in fifth place in the Central Division. The Sabres have a 38-19-6 record and with five wins in a row, they sit in a tie for first place in the Atlantic Division. Who will win this matchup? Check out our Predators vs Sabres prediction!

Nashville’s defense has let them down

The Predators are having a rough season with their offense letting them down and scoring only 2.94 goals per game. Ryan O’Reilly and Filip Forsberg have scored 50 goals and 62 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six active forwards have 10 goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let them down, allowing 3.44 goals per game. Brady Skjei and Roman Josi have combined for 4.7 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Juuse Saros has struggled lately, allowing 20 goals in his last five starts.

Key injury report for Predators

  • No key injuries to report.

Buffalo is led by an incredible offense

The Sabres are having a great season with their offense leading the way and scoring 3.40 goals per game with 14 goals in the last three games. Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and Ryan McLeod have scored 70 goals and 92 assists while defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has added 12 goals and 41 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has carried the Sabres but the defense has also been great, allowing only 2.97 goals per game. Mattias Samuelsson and Bowen Byram have combined for 8.3 defensive point shares while Owen Power and Rasmus Dahlin have combined for 5.5 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Additionally, goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has stepped up lately, allowing only eight goals in his last five starts.

Key injury report for Sabres

Predators vs Sabres Pick

Money Line Pick For Predators vs Sabres

  • Sabres -1.5 (+135) (4 units)

The Sabres have won five games in a row, and I see them dominating in this one on their home ice. The Sabres, who average 3.40 goals per game, should find the back of the net at will with Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with quick passes. The Sabres, who allow only 2.97 goals per game, should limit the Predators' offense with Mattias Samuelsson, Bowen Byram, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in all three zones while goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen blanks the shots on the net. The Sabres should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on their home ice.

Over/Under Pick For Predators vs Sabres

  • Over 6.5 (5 Units)

The Sabres are led by a remarkable offense, and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Predators should create plenty of scoring chances with Ryan O’Reilly, Filip Forsberg, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Sabres, who have scored 14 goals in their last three games, should run up the score against the Predators, who allow 3.44 goals per game, with Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, Ryan McLeod, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with effective puck movement while Rasmus Dahlin shreds the Predators defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6.5 goals.
