Preds Grab Big Road Win Over The Sens

Nashville arrives in Toronto riding a wave of early-season momentum after a 4–1 win over Ottawa on Monday night. Jonathan Marchessault led the scoring with two goals, while Ryan O’Reilly and Cole Smith added third-period insurance. Juuse Saros was outstanding again, stopping 31 of 32 shots and anchoring a defense that has allowed just five goals through three games. The Predators have now scored eight goals total and are beginning to find offensive rhythm after a slow opener, with Filip Forsberg and Steven Stamkos contributing key assists.

Defensively, Nashville has been one of the stingiest teams in the league. They’ve killed off all five penalties faced and are limiting opponents to just 31 shots per game. Roman Josi and Brady Skjei continue to log heavy minutes and control the pace from the back end, while the team’s forecheck has forced turnovers and disrupted zone entries. The Predators’ structure and discipline have been central to their early success, and they’ve shown the ability to close out tight games with poise.

With Saros starting Monday, backup Kevin Lankinen is expected to get the nod in net against Toronto. Lankinen posted a .911 save percentage last season and benefits from Nashville’s defensive shape, but he’ll face a much faster, more skilled attack than Ottawa’s. The Predators will need to lean on their shot suppression and physicality to slow down Toronto’s top six. If they can control the neutral zone and keep the game low-event, they’ll give Lankinen a chance to steal points on the road.

Leafs Lose Two In A Row To Detroit

Toronto returns to action after a second straight loss to Detroit, falling 3–2 on Monday night in a game that slipped away in the final minute. Mason Appleton scored the game-winner with 44 seconds left, capping a frustrating stretch where the Leafs rallied from a 2–0 deficit only to fall short. Calle Järnkrok and Matthew Knies provided the offense, but defensive lapses and inconsistent goaltending continue to be issues. Anthony Stolarz allowed three goals on 15 shots and has struggled early, which sets the stage for Joseph Woll to start Tuesday.

Offensively, the Leafs have generated 10 goals through three games, with Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Knies leading the charge. They’ve fired 88 shots and created plenty of high-danger chances, but the power play remains scoreless on four attempts. Toronto’s puck movement and zone pressure have been strong, but finishing and late-game execution have lagged. Head coach Craig Berube will be looking for a sharper start and better net-front presence against a Nashville team that collapses well defensively.

Joseph Woll is expected to start in net and will be tested by Nashville’s opportunistic counters and veteran scorers. Woll has shown flashes of brilliance but will need to be sharp against a team that’s converting on limited chances. Toronto’s blue line must tighten up, especially in the final 10 minutes, where breakdowns have cost them points in consecutive games. If the Leafs can strike early and protect Woll with cleaner zone exits and fewer turnovers, they’ll be in position to snap their skid and reassert control at home.

Nashville Predators vs Toronto Maple Leafs Pick

Predators vs Maple Leafs Moneyline Pick

  • Toronto -1.5 (5 Units)

Toronto -1.5 is a sharp play in a bounce-back spot against a Nashville team playing the second half of a back-to-back with its backup goalie in net. The Leafs have dropped two straight to Detroit but showed strong pushback in both games, and their top six—led by Auston Matthews and William Nylander—has been generating high-danger chances at a consistent clip. With Joseph Woll expected to start, Toronto should benefit from fresher legs and a more aggressive forecheck against Kevin Lankinen, who’s capable but less dynamic than Juuse Saros. If the Leafs strike early, they have the firepower to pull away.

Nashville’s defense has been excellent, but they’ve leaned heavily on Saros to mask offensive inconsistency. With Lankinen in net and the Predators playing their third game in four nights, Toronto’s speed and puck movement could wear them down over 60 minutes. The Leafs are overdue for a breakout on the power play, and if they finally convert with the man advantage, it could be the difference in covering the puck line. With home ice, a rested top unit, and urgency to avoid a three-game skid, Toronto is well-positioned to win by multiple goals.

Predators vs Maple Leafs Over/Under Pick

  • Under 6 (4 Units)

Under 6 is in play with both teams turning to backup goalies and coming off Monday games, which often leads to tighter, more conservative play. Toronto’s offense has been productive but inconsistent late, and Nashville’s scoring remains modest despite Monday’s outburst. With Joseph Woll and Kevin Lankinen expected in net, both sides may lean on defensive structure and limit risk, especially early. If special teams stay quiet and the pace slows in the second half, this matchup could stay comfortably under the number.
