The New Jersey Devils face the Tampa Bay Lightning, with both teams looking to improve on great seasons. The Devils are 13-4-1 and with two wins in a row, they boast the best record in the Metropolitan Division. The Lightning are 9-7-2 and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they are in the middle of the Atlantic Division. Who will win this game? Check out our Devils vs Lightning prediction!

We have the best NHL Predictions, sure to provide a great payout.

Devils have looked great on both ends of the ice.

The Devils are decimated by injuries with Jack Hughes out for eight weeks, and the hope is that the offense still holds up as they are averaging 3.28 goals per game. Jesper Bratt and Dawson Mercer have combined for 14 goals and 19 assists to lead the top two lines, but the rest offense has stepped up as well. Timo Meier, Nico Hischier, and Arseny Gritsyuk have combined for 12 goals and 23 assists, while defensemen Simon Nemec and Luke Hughes have added five goals and 18 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up, but the defense has been great as well, allowing only 2.89 goals per game. Nemec and Hughes have combined for 2.2 defensive point shares, while Jonas Seigenthaler and Dougie Hamilton have combined for 1.7 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. The hope is that goaltender Jacob Markstrom improves as he’s struggled with a .870 save percentage and a 3.67 goals-against average on 207 shots with -5.66 goals saved above average.

Key Injury Report for Devils:

  • RW Connor Brown (upper body) is out. Has 5g, 1a
  • D Dougie Hamilton (lower body). Has 4g, 3a

Tampa Bay is led by a great offense

The Lightning have turned their season around with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.00 goals per game with 17 goals in their last five games. Nikita Kucherov and Jake Guentzel have scored 16 goals and 17 assists, but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Brandon Hagel, Anthony Cirelli, and Brayden Point have combined for 17 goals and 19 assists, while defensemen JJ Moser and Darryn Raddysh have added two goals and six assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up, but the defense has struggled, especially with Victor Hedman and Ryan McDonagh out with injury, allowing 3.06 goals per game. JJ Moser and Erik Cernak have combined for 1.8 defensive point shares, but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has struggled with a .897 save percentage and a 2.77 goals-against average on 339 shots.

Key Injuries for Tampa Bay:

  • D Victor Hedman is day to day. Has 12 assists.
  • C Anthony Cirelli is day to day. Has 7g, 4a

Devils vs Lightning Pick

Money Line Pick For Devils vs Lightning

  • Lightning (-160) (4 units)

The Devils are having a great season, but with the injuries starting to pile up, I see the Lightning stepping up on their home ice and taking over this game. The Lightning, who average 3.00 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Nikita Kucherov, Jake Guentzel, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Lightning should limit the Devils offense with JJ Moser and Erik Cernak creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy to make plenty of big saves. The Lightning should win the game with a strong performance on their home ice.

Take the Lightning money line as home Favorites.

Β

Over/Under Pick For Devils vs Lightning

  • Over 6 (5 Units)

Both teams have great offenses, and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Devils, who average 3.28 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Jesper Bratt, Dawson Mercer, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Lightning, who have scored 17 goals in their last five games, should run up the score with Nikita Kucherov, Jake Guentzel, Brayden Point, and the rest of the forward unit creating open shots with speed in all three zones while overwhelming the Devils with quick passes in the offensive zone. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6 goals.
