Against Pittsburgh in a low-scoring, tight-checking contest, it took a shootout to decide the contest and New Jersey found a way to prevail. New Jersey was outshot 12-6 in the opening period but skated off with a 1-0 edge on the scoreboard at the first intermission. Arseny Gritsyuk opened the scoring with his third goal of the year, unassisted, at the 19:12 mark of the period. In the second period, New Jersey was outshot 11-9 and outscored 1-0 to tie the game at one after 40 minutes. The third period saw the Devils with an 8-7 edge in shots, with neither team scoring, keeping the game 1-1 at the end of regulation. In overtime, New Jersey was outshot 4-1 but neither team scored, sending things to a shootout. During the shootout, the Devils got goals from Paul Cotter and Jesper Bratt while Jake Allen stopped the first two shooters for Pittsburgh to earn the win. Allen made 33 saves for the Devils, who were outshot 34-24, in the win. Allen (6-2-0, 2.29 GAA, .914 save percentage) is slated to be between the pipes here for the Devils.

Islanders vs. Devils Pick

Islanders vs. Devils Moneyline Pick

  • Islanders +150

New York has been inconsistent in the first month of the season, but the fact remains that they have a dangerous offensive attack. The Islanders are 3-3-1 as the visiting team this year but they do have some positive momentum after blanking the Rangers Saturday. New Jersey is a sparkling 7-0-0 on home ice this season as Allen has stepped in nicely for the injured Jacob Markstrom. With two top defensemen missing for the Devils in Dougie Hamilton and Brett Pesce, some regression to the mean is inevitable. Look for the Islanders to find a way to skate away with a road victory here.

Islanders vs. Devils Over/Under Pick

  • Over 6 (-110) (4 units)

New York has seen the over hit in 11 of their 15 games on the year. The Islanders have an average total of 6.60 goals per game, and that number is 6.57 goals per game on the road on the year. New Jersey enters this game having seen the over post an 8-7 mark in their 15 games on the year with an average of 6.33 goals per game on the year. That number see that number fall to 5.29 goals per game on home ice this season. Both teams are above average when it comes to denting the twine and with the Islanders sputtering a bit in their own end of the ice, look for this game to wind up over the number.
