New York Rangers (5-5-2) vs. Seattle Kraken (5-2-3)

The New York Rangers head to Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA, on Saturday night to face off against the Seattle Kraken in a cross-conference showdown with the puck drop at 10:00 PM ET, and we’ve got you covered with our Rangers vs. Kraken prediction.

The Rangers meet the Kraken for the first time this season. They split a two-game set in 2024-25, with each team emerging victorious away from home. The Rangers blanked the Kraken 2-0 at Climate Pledge Arena, and Seattle responded with a 7-5 victory in New York.

The Rangers eye their third straight win

The New York Rangers put an end to their three-game losing streak last Tuesday, blanking the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 as -125 road favorites. Jonathan Quick posted 23 saves for his first shutout of the season, while Mika Zibanejad and Sam Carrick scored a goal each.

Two days later, the Rangers outlasted the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime. Playing as +135 road underdogs, the Rangers overcame a 3-1 deficit, and four skaters found the back of the net. J.T. Miller scored the winner, while Igor Shesterkin gave up three goals on 36 shots.

Shesterkin is expected to patrol the crease Saturday, and the 29-year-old netminder carries a 3-4-2 record with a 2.32 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Quick is 2-1-0 with a 1.35 GAA and a .941 save percentage this season.

The Rangers allow 2.42 goals per game (tied for 3rd in the NHL) and score just 2.33 goals in return (30th). They’ve only converted four of their 30 power-play opportunities while posting the second-worst shooting percentage in the league (8.1%). The Rangers are without center Vincent Trocheck, who had 59 points (G26, A33) last season.

The Kraken’s iffy form continues

The Seattle Kraken haven’t won or lost more than two straight games this season. They are 2-2-1 in the last five games overall. Last Tuesday, the Kraken missed an opportunity to extend their winning streak to three games. After consecutive wins over the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 and the Edmonton Oilers 3-2, the Kraken lost to the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in overtime.

The Kraken erased a three-goal deficit last Tuesday, but they ran out of gas in overtime. Brandon Montour scored two goals and made an assist, while Joey Daccord surrendered four goals on just 21 shots. Seattle went 1-for-4 with the man advantage, whereas Montreal converted both of its power-play opportunities.

Daccord is expected to get another starting call when the Rangers come to town. He’s 5-1-2 with a 2.68 GAA and a .905 save percentage this season. Daccord has had a few shaky displays thus far. The 29-year-old goalie has allowed nine goals across two games against the Canadiens.

Seattle scores 2.80 goals per game (tied for 23rd in the NHL) and allows 2.80 goals in return (10th). The Kraken have gone 6-for-30 with the man advantage thus far while notching the 16th-best shooting percentage in the league (11.2%). They cannot count on winger Jared McCann (G3, A1) and center Frederick Gaudreau (A1), while winger Kaapo Kakko (44 points last season) is questionable for Saturday’s clash against New York.

Rangers vs. Kraken Pick

Moneyline Pick for Rangers vs. Kraken

  • New York Rangers (5 units)

I expect a tight battle between these two teams. Both sides lean on a solid defense and goaltending. Frankly, this game could easily go either way. Both Rangers and Kraken were pretty unpredictable in October.

The Rangers have scored 12 goals over their previous four outings. With their offense finally showing signs of life, I will take the Rangers in this game. New York ranks fifth in the NHL in high-danger scoring chances (58.6%), whereas Seattle ranks 31st in this category (39.2%).

Seattle has struggled with penalty killing thus far (64.0%, 29th in the league). The Rangers have only allowed four power-play goals on 31 opportunities (87.1%, tied for 7th).

Over/Under Pick for Rangers vs. Kraken

  • Under 5.5 (5 units)

Of course, the line sits at 5.5 goals. As I noted, these two teams struggled to score in October while playing solid defense. Both clubs rely on their goaltending, so I can only look at the under.

Seattle prefers to play at a slow pace and take things cautiously. The Kraken don’t have a player who can win the game on his own. On the other side, the Rangers have a few top-notch forwards on their roster, but they still struggle to find the back of the net.
