The Maple Leafs entered Wednesday 2-2-0 on the season and stand tied for fourth, two points behind Florida, Montreal and Boston for the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Toronto is third in the league in goals per game as they average 4.25 goals per contest. The Maple Leafs are tied for 24th in goals against as they have allowed 3.75 goals per contest. Toronto is tied for 30th in the league in power play success as they are converting on 0% of their chances with the man advantage on the year. The Maple Leafs are tied for 14th in the league in the penalty killing department as they successfully get through 83.3% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Nashville, Toronto set a season-high in goals in the second game of a back-to-back set as they got back in the win column. The Maple Leafs owned a 9-8 advantage in shots in goal in the opening period and skated off with a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Jake McCabe opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at 8:42 off assists from Dakota Joshua and John Tavares. Oliver Ekman-Larsson made it a 2-0 game with his first goal of the year at 13:34 off assists from William Nylander and Simon Benoit. In the second period, Toronto was outshot 13-6 with both teams scoring twice, leaving them up 4-2 after 40 minutes of play. After Nashville tied the game with a pair of goals 44 seconds apart, John Tavares gave Toronto a 3-2 lead with his first goal of the year off assists from Nylander and Ekman-Larsson at the 8:49 mark. Marshall Rifai (wrist) is out indefinitely. Goaltender Joseph Woll (personal) and left wing Scott Laughton (lower body) are out until mid-October. Center Steven Lorentz (upper body) is questionable.
