The Rangers hope to snap a three-game skid
The New York Rangers have struggled a lot lately. They’ve only won one of their previous seven games overall. After stopping a three-game slide with a 4-3 victory at the Montreal Canadiens, the Rangers have lost three straight contests against the Minnesota Wild 3-1, the San Jose Sharks 6-5 in overtime, and the Calgary Flames 5-1.

Last Sunday, the Rangers started a four-game road trip with an awful performance in Calgary. They allowed five goals to the Flames, who have been one of the worst offensive teams in the league this season. New York outshot Calgary 31-30, and Noah Laba scored his first goal of the season.
Igor Shesterkin made his third straight start last Sunday. The 29-year-old netminder is 2-4-2 with a 2.25 GAA and a .916 save percentage in 2025-26. Jonathan Quick has guarded the cage twice this season, allowing one goal on 21 shots in a 1-0 loss to the Washington Capitals and three goals on 24 shots in that 4-3 victory in Montreal.
The Rangers desperately need more from their offense. New York scores just 2.20 goals per game (31st in the NHL) while going 4-for-25 with the man advantage (tied for 24th). The Rangers are fourth in the league in high-danger scoring chances (58.2%), but their shooting percentage is the second-worst in the NHL (7.7%).
D Brandon Scanlin is day to day.
The Canucks just stopped their three-game slide
The Vancouver Canucks put an end to their three-game losing streak last Sunday. After losing against the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1, the Nashville Predators 2-1, and the Montreal Canadiens 4-3, the Canucks outlasted the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime.
The Canucks blew a 3-1 lead last Sunday, but they found a way to come out on top. Kiefer Sherwood scored a couple of goals, including the winner in overtime, while Brock Boeser finished the game with a goal and two assists. Defenseman Quinn Hughes (G1, A6) didn’t play due to a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day.
Thatcher Demko gave up three goals on 29 shots against the Oilers. The 29-year-old goalie is now 4-2-0 with a 2.36 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 2025-26, while Kevin Lankinen is 1-3-0 with a poor 3.74 GAA and a .873 save percentage.
The Canucks tally 2.80 goals per game (tied for 23rd in the NHL) while going 6-for-33 with the man advantage (22nd). They rank 29th in the league in high-danger scoring chances (42.9%), and the Canucks’ shooting percentage of 10.9 is tied for the 16th-best in the NHL.
Rangers vs. Canucks Pick
Moneyline Pick for Rangers vs. Canucks
- Vancouver Canucks (5 units)
Thatcher Demko is expected to guard the cage for the Canucks. On the other side, the Rangers might go with Jonathan Quick simply because Igor Shesterkin has allowed a staggering 11 goals over his previous two starts.
Anyway, I’m going with the Canucks. I can’t back the Rangers until they start converting their chances. As I mentioned, the Rangers’ offense has been horrendous so far this season. The Canucks haven’t impressed either, but they just managed to beat the Oilers despite missing Quinn Hughes.
Over/Under Pick for Rangers vs. Canucks
- Under 5.5 (5 units)
I expect the Rangers to tighten things up after a couple of terrible displays against the lowly Sharks and Flames. Their defense is much better than that. On the other side, the Canucks will continue to lean on Thatcher Demko, who’s off to a solid start.
Quinn Hughes’ eventual absence would certainly hurt the Canucks’ defense, but I have to take the under in this matchup. As I noted a few times above, these two teams have been struggling to score thus far, especially the New York Rangers.
