The Ottawa Senators (6-5-2, 4-9 PL, 10-3 O/U) take on the Boston Bruins (8-7, 11-4 PL, 9-6 O/U) in a divisional showdown on Thursday evening, and we have everything you need to know and the prediction. The Senators were dealt a road loss by the Canadiens on Saturday. The Bruins recorded a road win against the Islanders on Tuesday. The Senators posted a 7-2 home win against the Bruins a few weeks ago in the only meeting this season.

Can the Senators post a third straight win in this divisional meeting onΒ  Thursday evening? Keep reading for the Senators vs. Bruins prediction. Nobody does it better when it comes to NHL Picks!

Senators Eye Rebound After OT Defeat

The Ottawa Senators continue a three-game road trip on Thursday. It’s been a light schedule this week. They have not played since Saturday. Ottawa is a good team that has countered with strong hockey after a poor start. They posted a 4-3 shootout home win against the Flames last week, followed by a 4-3 overtime road loss against a potent Canadiens team on Saturday.

Drake Batherson has been dominant. The 27-year-old winger has amassed 11 points in his past five games and leads the squad with 15 points on the year. Tim Stutze is consistently producing. The 23-year-old center has nine points in his past five games. He has one point in all but three games. Stutzle has 14 points on the year. He scored two goals against the Bruins last month.

Dylan Cozens has been contributing. The young center has netted six goals and has 10 points. Thomas Chabot plays huge minutes. The veteran defenseman is one of the best in the NHL. He has issued seven points and averaged nearly 23 minutes of ice. Jordan Spence is in his first season with the Senators and has been steady. The young defenseman has earned five points and a +2 rating.

The Senators' goaltending is shaky. Leevi Merilainen is the backup. He has conceded nine goals in two games. He posted the win in the recent meeting against the Bruins last month. Linus Ullmark is playing a ton of games. The 32-year-old net minder can be hit or miss. He has reported a 3.41 GAA, an .861 save %, accompanied by a 5-4-2 record on the season. Ullmark was in the net in the defeat against the Canadiens earlier this week.

Ottawa is averaging 3.5 goals per game, ranking them ninth. The Senators are conceding an average of 3.9 goals, ranking them 30th.

Boston Climbs Above the .500 Mark

The Boston Bruins are eying the .500 mark in this one. Boston is not a contender this season, and it’s going to be a daunting task just to reach the playoffs. The Bruins had a six-game losing streak last month, but have answered with solid play recently. They have won four of their past five games. They earned a big 2-1 home win against the Hurricanes on Saturday and a 4-3 shootout road win against the Islanders on Tuesday.

David Pastrnak is the leader of this squad. The 29-year-old winger has been magnificent. He has five points in his past five games and has recorded 18 points on the year. He was kept off the scoresheet against the Senators last month. Pavel Zacha has points in four of his past five games. The veteran center has been steady, bringing in 13 points on the season. Morgan Geekie scored against the Senators last month. The 27-year-old has yielded 12 points.

Charlie McAvoy has yet to find the back of the net this season. The star defenseman does have 11 helpers on the year, but a -3 rating. He logs huge minutes, averaging 23 minutes of ice per game. Mason Lohrei is a young defenseman displaying improvement. He has earned six points and a 0 rating.

The Bruins are sharing the duties in the net with Jonas Korpisalo and Jeremy Swayman. Korpisalo has a 3.49 GAA and an .882 save %. Swayman is considered the #1 goalie but has been stumbling as seen in his 3.10 GAA and an .897 save %, accompanied by a 4-4 record on the year. He was in the net in the defeat against the Senators last month.

Boston is scoring an average of 3.2 goals per game, ranking them 16th. The Bruins are conceding an average of 3.4 goals, marking them 25th in the NHL.

Senators vs. Bruins Pick

Spread Pick for Senators vs. Bruins

  • Ottawa Senators -130 (5 units)

The Ottawa Senators are the better team here and are in a groove, sporting a 4-1-1 record in their past six games, including a blowout road win against the Capitals. The Boston Bruins are playing better recently, but three of their last four games were against teams that did not make the playoffs last year.

Furthermore, Ottawa has a dangerous offense that has scored 24 goals in its past five games. This is good news against a Bruins team that is not the defensive beast it was in the past few seasons. They have a weak xGA/60 minutes of 3.52 goals per game, which is below the league average. The Senators' defense is better, as seen in its xGA/60 of just 2.96 goals. Also, the Bruins' goaltending has been a weakness. Korpisaloo has a poor 3.49 GAA, and Swayman has a 3.10 GAA on the season.

Over/Under Pick for Senators vs. Bruins

  • Under 6 (5 units)

I expect this one to go under. Ottawa has been sharp in the defensive zone, keeping its opponent to three or fewer goals in four of its past six games. Boston only scored two goals against the Senators in the first meeting a few weeks ago. Boston has scored three or fewer goals in three of their past five games.

In addition, the Bruins have also been solid defensively in the past few weeks. They have conceded just six goals in their last three home games and three or fewer goals in five of their past six games. The under is a convincing 11-5 in the past 16 meetings between these squads.
