Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals prediction
Ottawa takes a 1-0-0 record into TD Garden after beating Toronto 3-2 in its season opener Saturday. Boston is 2-1-0 and returns home after splitting a back-to-back, with Jeremy Swayman confirmed to start Monday. The market views this as nearly a coin flip, with Ottawa around -115 to -117 and Boston close to even money.
This matchup has changed significantly because of Ottawa's injury situation. Jake Sanderson left Saturday's opener after aggravating an undisclosed injury, Andre Burakovsky was placed on injured reserve Monday with an upper-body injury, and the Senators recalled defenseman Jorian Donovan. That makes the Ottawa blue line and lineup status an important part of the handicap rather than a footnote.

Ottawa Senators Betting Analysis

Ottawa's first game without Brady Tkachuk showed that the offense can still function through a broader group. Newly named captain Thomas Chabot had a goal and an assist against Toronto, Stephen Halliday scored the third-period winner, Michael Amadio also found the net, and Claude Giroux produced two assists. Linus Ullmark stopped 27 of 29 shots.
The Senators' current forward group still has Tim Stutzle, Dylan Cozens, Drake Batherson and Giroux, enough skill to challenge Boston even without Burakovsky. The concern is on defense. Sanderson's status is uncertain after he left the Toronto game early, while Artem Zub has also been working back from a knee injury. Ottawa cannot afford to give Boston repeated clean entries and expect Ullmark to solve everything.
Ottawa also plays again Tuesday in Detroit, but Monday is not the second half of a back-to-back. The Senators had Sunday off after their opener. That means the schedule itself is not a reason to downgrade them heavily here. The more meaningful variables are the defense corps and a difficult matchup with Swayman.

Boston Bruins Betting Analysis

Boston has already received excellent work from Swayman. He enters Monday 2-0-0 with a 1.47 goals-against average, a .947 save percentage and one shutout. After sitting out Saturday's game in Minnesota, he is confirmed to return against Ottawa. That gives Boston a clear goaltending anchor in a matchup priced close to even.
The Bruins have also gotten an immediate contribution from JJ Peterka, who has scored twice early in the season. David Pastrnak remains the central offensive threat, and Boston's lineup is deep enough to create problems if Ottawa's defense is missing Sanderson. Matt Poitras was also trending toward a return as Boston adjusted its roster Monday.
Boston's 2-1 record includes a 4-3 overtime win in Winnipeg and a 3-0 opening victory over the Rangers. The Bruins have shown they can win both a low-event game and a more open contest. With Swayman back in net, they have a stronger foundation than their near-even-money price might imply.

Senators vs Bruins Matchup Outlook

Ottawa has enough offensive talent to make this a difficult game, and Ullmark returning to Boston adds another interesting layer if he gets the start. His status was still listed as unconfirmed in one goalie tracker during the audit, so the article should not treat the matchup as a confirmed Ullmark-Swayman duel until warmups settle it.
The market is giving bettors a chance to take Boston without laying a favorite premium. That is appealing because Swayman's start is confirmed while Ottawa is managing fresh uncertainty on defense. The Senators can win if their transition offense creates enough quality looks, but Boston is better positioned to turn this into a game decided by defensive detail and goaltending.
Because the season is only days old, the current price matters more than broad conclusions drawn from tiny samples. Early records can describe what has happened without proving that the same shooting, save or special-teams rates will continue. The wager therefore depends on the matchup and the listed threshold, not on chasing a short streak after the market moves.
Special teams are another reason the game projects as close. Ottawa has enough puck skill to make Boston pay for unnecessary penalties, while the Bruins can pressure a Senators penalty kill that may have to redistribute minutes if Sanderson cannot play. Neither side needs to force offense at five-on-five. With Swayman in form and Ottawa coming off a controlled 3-2 win, a one-goal game deep into the third period is a reasonable expectation.

Best Bet

Best Bet: Boston Bruins moneyline at +100 or better
Ottawa deserves respect after its opening win, but the combination of Sanderson's uncertain status, Burakovsky's move to injured reserve and Swayman's confirmed start shifts the value toward Boston. The Bruins do not need to be treated as a strong favorite. At even money or better, home ice and the confirmed goaltending advantage are enough to make Boston the preferred side.
Prediction: Boston Bruins 3, Ottawa Senators 2
