Senators Conclude Tough Road Trip

The Ottawa Senators are happy to be wrapping up a daunting road trek in this one. Ottawa has spent the last six games on the road. They have been decent, posting a 3-3 mark in those six games. This includes a narrow 2-1 loss against the Kings and a 4-3 defeat against the Blues on Friday. Next, the Senators were dealt an ugly 6-1 road defeat against a hot Stars team on Sunday. The Sens are in fourth place in the division, six points out of the top spot.

Claude Giroux has been kept in check, recording only eight points in November. The 37-year-old winger is having a decent season, contributing with 16 points. Brady Tkachuk is back in action after missing most of the season due to a hand injury. The 26-year-old captain has managed four points in five games. Tim Stuzle is having a strong season but has been quiet the past few weeks. The 23-year-old center has not scored in five straight games and has 11 goals, along with 23 points on the season. He scored in the defeat against the Canadiens last month. Dylan Cozens has 16 points in 25 games.

Jake Sanderson has been a beast. The 23-year-old defenseman has six points in his last five games. He is logging huge minutes, averaging nearly 25 minutes of ice per game. He has 15 points and a +1 rating on the season. Thomas Chabot has missed a few games and is now on the IR. The veteran defenseman is steady, posting 10 points and a +5 rating.

The Senators have subpar goaltending. Backup Levi Merilainen has a weak 3.40 GAA and an .874 save %. Linus Ullmark has played in 20 games. He has issued a 3.10 GAA and an .874 save %, accompanied by a 9-6-4 record. He was in the net in the defeat on Sunday, making 20 saves.

Ottawa is averaging 3.0 goals per game on the season, ranking them 16th. The Senators are conceding an average of 3.4 goals, pegging them 25th in the NHL.

Canadiens End Road Trek with Defeat

The Montreal Canadiens are glad to be home after a daunting road trek. The Canadians have been a streaky team this season. They had lost five in a row last month. The Habs posted a 4-3 win against the Mammoth last week and a big 4-1 road win against Vegas last week. Next, the Canadiens were dealt a 7-2 road loss by Colorado on Saturday to conclude the road trek. The Canadians are in third place in the division.

Nick Suzuki continues to thrive, amassing seven points in his past five games. The 26-year-old center managed one point in the defeat on Saturday and has recorded 28 points on the year. Cole Caufield posted 13 points in November. The young winger has 26 points on the year. He had a goal and a helper in the win against the Senators earlier this month. Ivan Demidov has yielded at least one point in five of his past six games. The 19-year-old winger is having a promising rookie season, contributing wth 19 points. Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach are out with injuries.

Mike Matheson was just signed to a contract extension. The veteran defenseman has registered five points in his last five games. Matheson has 15 points and leads the team in ice time, averaging 25 minutes. Noah Dobson is also steady, averaging 23 minutes of ice time. The 25-year-old defenseman has 16 points and a +1 rating.

The Canadiens' goaltending has been an issue at times this season. They are sharing the duties with Sam Momtembeault and Jakub Dobes. Montembeault has a weak 3.49 GAA and an .864 save %, and a 5-5-1 record. Jakub Dobes has been a bit better and has seen more of the action. He has reported a 3.22 GAA and an .888 save %.

Montreal is scoring an average of 3.5 goals per game, ranking them fourth. The Canadiens are squandering an average of 3.5 goals, placing them 28th.

Spread Pick for Senators vs. Canadiens

  • Montreal Canadiens -110 (5 units)

The Ottawa Senators have been on the road for the past six games. This marks the last game of the road trip, which is always a challenging game to win. The Senators are stumbling, dropping three of their past four games, and are below .500 on the road this season. The Montreal Canadiens have countered a weak stretch of hockey by winning three of their past four games.

Furthermore, Ottawa has been contained offensively, scoring three or fewer goals in five of its past six games. They only managed 17 shots on net in the first meeting against the Canadiens. Also, Montreal is in a groove offensively, scoring 19 goals in its past five games. The Senators' goalies are near the bottom of the NHL in goals saved above expected.

Over/Under Pick for Senators vs. Canadiens

  • Over 6 (5 units)

I expect a ton of scoring in this one. Ottawa has a potent PP that has netted a sharp 21.8% efficiency this season. This is key against a weak Canadiens' PK ranked 25th. The Canadiens' defense and goaltending have been shaky, squandering 21 goals in their past five games.

In addition, the Senators' goaltending has also been exposed. They have surrendered 10 goals in their past two games and gave up four goals in the first meeting against the Canadiens, in which the over cashed. Also, the over is a convincing 5-1 in the Canadiens' past six games.
