The Ottawa Senators face the St. Louis Blues with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Senators are 12-6-4 and on a seven-game road trip where they’ve gone 3-1 on it so far to move to second place in the Atlantic Division. The Blues are 7-10-7 and with only one win in their last seven games, they have the second-worst record in the Central Division. Who will win this game? Check out our Senators vs Blues prediction!

Ottawa is led by a great offense

The Senators are scoring 3.13 goals per game with four goals in their last game. Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson have scored 19 goals and 23 assists to lead the top line, but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Dylan Cozens, Shane Pinto, and Claude Giroux have combined for 23 goals and 26 assists, while defenseman Jake Sanderson has added four goals and 14 assists from the point to open up the offense.

While the defense has struggled, allowing 3.22 goals per game, it’s been great in recent games to fuel the hot streak, allowing only nine goals in their last four games. Jake Sanderson and Jordan Spence have combined for 2.4 defensive point shares, while Artem Zub and Nick Jensen have combined for 1.5 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. What’s really had this defense playing great is the strong play in the net as Linus Ullmark has allowed only eight goals in the last four starts to turn a corner on a season where he has a .880 save percentage and a 2.94 goals-against average on 451 shots with -7.6 goals saved above average.

Key injury report for Senators

  • Thomas Chabot is day-to-day. Has two goals and eight assists and is a key part of the defense
  • Brady Tkachuk (thumb) is expected to return on Friday night against the Blues. Will likely see limited ice time in his first game back since Oct. 13.

Blues have been awful on both ends of the ice

The Blues are having an awful season with their offense in particular falling apart lately, scoring only 2.63 goals per game with only 11 goals in their last five games. Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou have 10 goals and 17 assists, but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six skaters have five goals or more, and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has let the Blues down, but the defense has also been a mess, allowing 3.58 goals per game. Justin Faulk and Philip Broberg have combined for 2.7 defensive point shares, but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Moreover, Jordan Binnington, who has struggled all season with a .881 save percentage and a 3.11 goals-against average on 386 shots with -6.3 goals saved above average, has let them down lately, allowing 11 goals in his last four starts.

Key injury report for Blues

  • No key injuries to report.

Senators vs Blues Pick

Money Line Pick For Senators vs Blues

  • Senators (-110) (4 units)

The Senators have taken three of their four games on this road trip, and I see them dominating this game against a Blues team that’s lost six of their last seven games. The Senators, who average 3.13 goals per game, should find the back of the net at will against the Blues, who allow 3.58 goals per game, with Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Senators look to eliminate a Blues offense that only has 11 goals in the last five games, with Linus Ullmark, who has allowed only eight goals in the last four starts, blanking the shots on the net while Jake Sanderson and Artem Zub make the job easy in front of him by limiting shooting lanes. The Senators should win the game with a dominant performance on the road.

Take the Senators money line as road Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Senators vs Blues

  • Over 6 (5 Units)

The Blues have been awful on defense, and with Jordan Binnington in the net, this game is sure to be a high-scoring one. The Blues should pot a few goals thanks to Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou driving play and creating a few open looks. The Senators look to build off a four-goal game and run up the score against the Blues and Jordan Binnington, who has allowed 11 goals in his last four starts, with Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson, Dylan Cozens, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence and creating open shots with effective puck movement while Jake Sanderson picks apart the Blues from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6 goals.
