Game Preview

The Anaheim Ducks open a four-game homestand Sunday against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Honda Center, with puck drop scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Anaheim is 9-7-1 and has won four straight, while Pittsburgh stands 6-9-2. The difference in current form is significant, but the more important handicapping question is whether Anaheim can maintain its offensive pace against a Penguins team that just delivered one of its better performances.
Pittsburgh beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 on Saturday, with Sidney Crosby and Tommy Novak each scoring twice. That win ended a four-game skid, but the Penguins now complete a back-to-back and travel to Anaheim without the benefit of a full day to recover. The Ducks last played Friday, when they erased a 3-1 deficit to beat Calgary 5-3. Anaheim therefore holds the more straightforward rest advantage, even though its recent victories have demanded plenty of offensive work.

NHL Odds and Line Movement

Anaheim has been a modest favorite, with DraftKings and other published Sunday boards showing Ducks -120 and Penguins +100 on the full-game moneyline. A FanDuel comparison showed the same -120 price. That is a manageable favorite number compared with asking Anaheim to win by multiple goals on the puck line. A -1.5 selection has paid around +186 to +195 on various boards, but the Ducks’ defensive problems make that margin a less dependable outcome.
The total has been 6.5 goals, with the Over near -148 or -150 at the major books. That pricing reflects a remarkably active stretch of Anaheim games, yet betting the Over would require seven combined goals and expose the pick to the variance of finishing and goaltending. The Anaheim moneyline instead offers a more direct way to support the rested home club. As always, the quoted sportsbook price is a dated reference that may change before puck drop.

Pittsburgh Penguins Betting Outlook

Pittsburgh has enough experience to threaten Anaheim even on short rest. Crosby’s two-goal performance in Los Angeles was a reminder of his finishing ability, while Evgeni Malkin contributed three assists and continues to generate scoring chances. Rickard Rakell is projected on the top line with Crosby and Malkin, giving the Penguins a combination that can punish sloppy coverage. The club also has speed lower in the lineup if it can keep the game from becoming a series of extended Ducks possessions.
Pittsburgh’s projected starting goalie is Arturs Silovs after Sergei Murashov handled Saturday’s win against the Kings. That assignment is expected, not confirmed. The short turnaround matters because the Penguins’ own defense has allowed too many chances this season, and tired defensive-zone shifts can become particularly costly against an Anaheim attack that has been finishing consistently. Bryan Rust and several other players remain on Sunday’s injury report.

Anaheim Ducks Betting Outlook

Anaheim’s latest scoring run has been extraordinary: five or more goals in seven consecutive games entering Sunday. In Calgary, Cutter Gauthier scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period, extending a stretch of nine goals in four games. Leo Carlsson has continued to develop as a creator, while Beckett Sennecke and Jackson LaCombe have contributed from different parts of the lineup. The Ducks can generate chances without relying on one scorer to carry every shift.
The caution is that Anaheim has been allowing goals almost as quickly as it scores them. One Sunday betting-board comparison lists the Ducks around 3.76 goals scored and 3.76 conceded per game. Ville Husso is projected in net after relieving Lukas Dostal in Calgary, but his starter designation remains subject to confirmation. Anaheim’s power play has been a particular strength, sitting around 36 percent in the same public comparison. That special-teams advantage could be decisive if Pittsburgh takes unnecessary penalties.

Matchup Analysis

Anaheim’s offense has been able to turn pressure into goals quickly, but it cannot expect its elevated shooting percentage to continue indefinitely. The Ducks are most dangerous when Carlsson and Gauthier create chances off controlled entries and when LaCombe helps maintain pressure after the initial shot. Pittsburgh’s assignment is to force those sequences to the outside, win rebounds and prevent repeat possessions.
The Penguins can make Anaheim pay for a loose game. Crosby and Malkin are skilled enough to expose mistakes, and Anaheim’s defensive numbers leave room for Pittsburgh to score two or three times. That is why a narrow moneyline is more attractive than a puck-line demand. The home team is fresher, has a stronger current offensive rhythm and owns a credible route to the decisive goal even if the contest becomes high scoring.

Penguins vs Ducks Prediction and Best Bet

Anaheim should have more energy in the second half of the game, particularly if Pittsburgh’s Saturday win in Los Angeles required heavy minutes from its leading forwards. The Ducks have clear defensive weaknesses, so the Penguins cannot be dismissed. At a modest favorite price, however, Anaheim’s home ice, scoring depth and power play create the more persuasive argument.
Best Bet: Anaheim Ducks full-game moneyline (-120 at DraftKings/FanDuel; -125 or better). The pick requires an Anaheim victory by any margin, including overtime or a shootout, rather than the two-goal cushion needed for a puck-line bet.
Prediction: Anaheim Ducks 5, Pittsburgh Penguins 3. Pittsburgh’s veteran scorers should generate chances, but Anaheim can produce enough goals to finish ahead in a game with considerable offensive activity.
