The Sharks’ win streak is over
The San Jose Sharks put an end to their surprising four-game winning streak this past Thursday. After beating the Seattle Kraken 6-1, the Winnipeg Jets 2-1, the Florida Panthers 3-1, and the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in overtime, the Sharks suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Calgary Flames.
The Sharks took just 17 shots toward Calgary’s net, while the Flames blocked 25 shots. Yaroslav Askarov had another monster game, allowing just two goals on 36 shots, but it wasn’t enough. San Jose went 0-for-2 with the man advantage and failed to score for the second time this season.
Askarov fell to 5-5-1 on the season. The 23-year-old netminder holds a 3.09 GAA and a .906 save percentage, but he’s only allowed six goals in five starts this month while posting a ridiculous .971 save percentage.
Alex Nedeljkovic is 3-2-2 with a 2.96 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 2025-26, and the Sharks allow 3.22 goals per game (20th in the NHL) while scoring 3.06 goals in return (tied for 17th). Macklin Celebrini leads the way with 10 goals and 16 assists. Jeff Skinner (G4, A3) suffered a lower-body injury last Thursday and is considered day-to-day.
The Kraken’s iffy form continues
The Seattle Kraken have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the league so far this season. They haven’t won or lost more than two games in a row. Seattle snapped a two-game skid last Thursday. The Kraken beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 after losing against the Dallas Stars 2-1 and the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 in a shootout.
Seattle needed just 18 shots to score five goals against Winnipeg. The Kraken netted three unanswered goals in the third period, and Jordan Eberle led the charge with a couple of goals, including an empty-netter.
Philipp Grubauer gave up three goals on 26 shots last Thursday. Grubauer (2-0-1; 2.64 GAA; .878 SV%) and Matt Murray (0-2-1; 2.13 GAA; .926 SV%) share the crease in Joey Daccord’s absence. Daccord (upper body) is on the IR, and Murray is projected to guard the cage against San Jose.
Seattle allows 2.76 goals per game (tied for 7th in the NHL) and scores just 2.65 goals in return (tied for 28th). Jordan Eberle is the Kraken’s leading scorer with seven goals and six assists in 17 games. Jared McCann (G3, A1) is on the IR, while Kaapo Kakko (G1) suffered a lower-body injury against Winnipeg and is questionable for Saturday’s clash against San Jose.
Sharks vs. Kraken Pick
Spread Pick for Sharks vs. Kraken
- San Jose Sharks (5 units)
The Sharks’ defense has improved over the last few weeks, and Yaroslav Askarov has thrived in such circumstances. Askarov, the No. 11 overall pick from the 2020 NHL Draft, posted 29 saves in that 6-1 thrashing of the Kraken ten days ago, and I expect another strong performance from him.
Matt Murray has done a great job for the Kraken thus far, so we should see a much tighter battle this time around. The Sharks’ offense can only play better than it did against Calgary, and I don’t trust the Kraken’s offense at all, so give me San Jose at plus money.
Over/Under Pick for Sharks vs. Kraken
- Under 6.5 (5 units)
The Kraken just scored five goals against the Jets, but Seattle’s offense cannot be trusted. Just one team has created fewer high-danger scoring chances than Seattle, and the Kraken rank 19th in the league in shooting percentage (10.7%).
On the other side, the Sharks boast the fifth-best shooting percentage in the NHL (12.7%), but their offense has slowed down over the last four games. Each of those four tilts has seen fewer than five goals on the scoreboard. Hereof, I’m backing the under on the total.
