The Seattle Kraken face the Chicago Blackhawks with both teams looking to improve on impressive starts to the season. The Kraken are 9-5-5 and clinging to a wild-card spot in the Western Conference, while the Blackhawks have a 10-5-4 record. With two wins in a row, they have secured the top wild-card spot in the conference. Who will win this game? Check out our Kraken vs Blackhawks prediction!

Seattle is led by a great defense

The Kraken are having a strong season despite their offense struggling and scoring only 2.68 goals per game. Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz have combined for 15 goals and 13 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four skaters have four goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.74 goals per game. Brandon Mountour and Jamie Oleksiak have combined for 2.1 defensive point shares while Josh Mahura and Ryan Lindgren have combined for 1.9 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Joey Daccord has stepped up with a .898 save percentage and a 2.85 goals-against average on 325 shots.

Key injury report for Kraken

  • Kaapo Kakko (lower body) was placed on injured reserve and is week-to-week.
  • Jared McCann (lower body) started resuming skating this week. Had three goals and an assist.

Blackhawks have looked great on both ends of the ice

The Blackhawks are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.37 goals per game, with eight goals in the last two games. Connor Bedard, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Andre Burakovsky have scored 29 goals and 30 assists but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Tuevo Teravainen, Ryan Donato, and Frank Nazar have combined for 16 goals and 22 assists, while defensemen Louie Crevier and Artyom Levshunov have added two goals and 18 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has carried them all season, allowing only 2.53 goals per game, including only four goals in the last two games. Wyatt Kaiser and Matt Grzelcyk have combined for 2.8 defensive point shares while Louie Crevier and Sam Rinzel have combined for 2.0 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. Additionally, goaltender Spencer Knight has been impressive, boasting a .924 save percentage and a 2.42 goals-against average on 423 shots, resulting in 11.7 goals saved above average.

Key injury report for Blackhawks

  • Nick Foligno (hand) was placed on injured reserve. Had six assists.

Kraken vs Blackhawks Pick

Money Line Pick For Kraken vs Blackhawks

  • Blackhawks (-110) (4 units)

The Blackhawks have won two games in a row and I see them taking over this one on their home ice. The Blackhawks, who average 3.37 goals per game, should pile on the goals with Connor Bedard, Ryan Donato, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Blackhawks, who allow only 2.53 goals per game, should limit the Kraken offense with Wyatt Kaiser, Louie Crevier, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Spencer Knight to make plenty of big saves. The Blackhawks should win the game with a strong performance on their home ice.

Take the Blackhawks money line as home Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Kraken vs Blackhawks

  • Under 5.5 (5 Units)

The Kraken and Blackhawks have great defenses, and I see this game being a low-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Kraken, who average only 2.53 goals per game, should limit the Blackhawks' offense with Jamie Oleksiak, Brandon Mountour, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Joey Daccord to make plenty of big saves. The Blackhawks, who have allowed only four goals in their last two games, should eliminate and potentially shut out the Kraken, who average only 2.68 goals per game, with Wyatt Kaiser, Louie Crevier, Sam Rinzel, and the rest of the defensive unit forcing turnovers in the neutral zone and defensive zone while goaltender Spencer Knight blanks the shots on the net. The Under should cover in a low-scoring game with both defenses stepping up.

Take the Under on 5.5 goals.

The Kraken face the Blackhawks with both teams looking to improve in the Western Conference.
