The Senators continue their seven-game road trip
Sunday’s clash against the Stars will be the sixth straight outing on the road for the Ottawa Senators. Over their previous five games, the Senators have gone 3-2-0. They’ve dropped two of their last three contests, sandwiching a 4-3 shootout victory against the Vegas Golden Knights with a pair of losses at the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 and the St. Louis Blues 4-3.
Last Friday, the Sens blew a 2-1 lead in St. Louis. They gave up three goals in the third period. Leevi Merilainen posted 27 saves and fell to 3-3-0 on the season. Merilainen holds a miserable 3.40 GAA and a .874 save percentage, while Linus Ullmark is 9-5-4 with a 2.94 GAA and a .880 save percentage.
Ullmark is expected to patrol the crease against the Stars on Sunday. Last Wednesday, Ullmark posted 32 stops in regulation before saving three shots in that shootout victory over Vegas. Ullmark is undefeated in three straight starts.
The Senators allow 3.25 goals per game (tied for 23rd in the NHL) and score 3.13 goals in return (tied for 9th). Center Tim Stutzle leads the way for Ottawa with 11 goals and 12 assists, while winger Drake Batherson has recorded eight goals and 13 assists this season. The Sens miss defenseman Thomas Chabot (G2, A8).
The Stars aim for their fourth straight W
The Dallas Stars have won nine of their previous 11 games overall. They are undefeated in three straight outings, beating the Edmonton Oilers 8-3, the Seattle Kraken 3-2, and the Utah Mammoth 4-3 in the process.
Last Friday, the Stars erased a 2-0 deficit against the Mammoth. Winger Jason Robertson scored the 12th goal in his last nine appearances, while center Wyatt Johnston netted his 13th goal of the season to lift Dallas over Utah. The Stars went 2-for-5 with the man advantage, and Jake Oettinger posted 27 saves on the night.
Oettinger is now 11-4-2 with a 2.76 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 2025-26. He’s emerged victorious in six of his last seven starts. Casey DeSmith has done a great job across eight starts this season, going 5-1-2 with a 2.20 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
Dallas allows 2.72 goals per game (8th in the NHL) and scores 3.40 goals in return (5th). Robertson has amassed 15 goals and 17 assists across 25 games this season, while fellow winger Mikko Rantanen has accounted for 10 goals and 20 dishes in 24 games. The Stars miss defenseman Thomas Harley (G1, A9).
Senators vs. Stars Pick
Moneyline Pick for Senators vs. Stars
- Dallas Stars -140 (5 units)
The Stars have one of the best goaltending duos in the NHL. Their penalty killing has been far from elite level this season (78.5%, 22nd in the league), but the Senators have been even worse than Dallas, killing just 49 of 69 opposing power-play opportunities (71.0%, 31st).
Linus Ullmark has been solid lately, but the Sens will have a tall task to slow down the Stars’ red-hot offense. Dallas has scored 35 goals over its previous eight games overall. The Stars boast the best power-play percentage in the NHL (27-for-85), so I have to take Dallas in this game.
Dallas overcame a two-goal deficit in Ottawa. The Stars outshot the Sens 33-29, and Jason Robertson led the charge with a goal and two assists.
Over/Under Pick for Senators vs. Stars
- Over 5.5 (5 units)
As I said, the Stars’ offense has been terrific lately. Jason Robertson looks unstoppable, Mikko Rantanen continues to impress, and Wyatt Johnston is having another solid season. The Stars’ power-play execution is lethal, and the Senators will struggle to contain Dallas.
Hereof, I will take the over. The Sens are a solid offensive team. They rank 11th in power-play percentage (17-for-75) and seventh in shooting percentage (11.8%). Brady Tkachuk is back from a thumb injury, and the Senators will find a way to score a couple of goals against Dallas.
