The 2025-26 NHL season continues Friday, December 5, with the San Jose Sharks facing off against the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference showdown at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, so here’s our Sharks vs. Stars prediction along with the latest team stats, news, and odds update.
San Jose meets Dallas for the first time this season, and the Stars aim for their seventh straight victory over the Sharks. The last time they met, Dallas trounced San Jose 8-3 as a -230 road fave on February 8, 2025.
Let’s take a closer look at this Sharks vs. Stars prediction, one of our NHL picks for Friday night. Dallas opens as a firm -285 home fave with a total of 6.0 goals, and the puck drop is set at 8:00 PM ET.
The Sharks are coming off a heavy loss
The San Jose Sharks have gone 3-4-0 in their last seven games overall, alternating losses and wins in the process. Last Wednesday, the Sharks were embarrassed in front of the home fans, suffering a 7-1 defeat against the Washington Capitals.

Washington outshot San Jose 30-24, and the Caps had a 4-0 lead after the first period. Yaroslav Askarov was pulled off after just 17:07 of play, yielding four goals on 12 shots, while Alex Nedeljkovic gave up three goals on 15 shots.
Askarov fell to 10-7-1 on the season, and the 23-year-old netminder now holds a 3.15 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Nedeljkovic is 3-5-2 with a 3.19 GAA and a .893 save percentage this season. The Sharks are 23rd in the league in both goals against (3.32 per game) and goals for (2.86).
Macklin Celebrini leads the way for San Jose with 14 goals and 26 assists, but the 19-year-old center hasn’t found the back of the net in five straight games. Fellow center Will Smith has amassed 12 goals and 15 assists, while defenseman Dmitry Orlov has 16 dishes on his season tally.
The Stars continue to impress
The Dallas Stars have won five of their previous six games overall. After stopping their four-game winning streak with a 3-2 overtime defeat at the New York Rangers, the Stars blanked the New Jersey Devils 3-0 as slight -105 road underdogs last Wednesday.
Wingers Mikko Rantanen and Jason Robertson and defenseman Miro Heiskanen each scored a goal against the Devils, while defenseman Esa Lindell had two assists. Jake Oettinger posted 30 saves for his second shutout of the season.
Oettinger is now 12-4-2 with a 2.60 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 2025-26, while Casey DeSmith carries a 6-1-3 record with a 2.16 GAA and a .921 save percentage. The Stars allow 2.57 goals per game (3rd in the NHL) and score 3.43 goals in return (4th).
Robertson leads the charge for Dallas with 17 goals and 19 assists, while Rantanen has accounted for 12 goals and 23 assists this season. Center Tyler Seguin (G7, A10) suffered a knee injury last Tuesday, and he’s probably done for the season.
Sharks vs. Stars Pick
Spread Pick for Sharks vs. Stars
- Dallas Stars -1.5 (5 units)
The Stars have enough firepower to overcome Tyler Seguin’s injury. Jason Robertson and Mikko Rantanen have been unstoppable this season, while the Stars’ goaltending duo is arguably one of the best in the league.
On the other side, the Sharks are young and inconsistent. Yaroslav Askarov was magnificent in November (8-2-0 with a 1.88 GAA and a .947 SV%), but he’s allowed 13 goals on 99 shots over his previous four starts (.869 SV%).
Dallas boasts the second-best power-play percentage in the NHL (29-for-92) and ranks sixth in expected goals for at even strength. They should torture the Sharks, who are winless in four straight outings on the road.
Over/Under Pick for Sharks vs. Stars
- Over 6.0 (5 units)
The Stars have scored at least three goals in five of their previous six outings. In their previous two showings at home, the Stars have accounted for 10 goals, beating the Utah Mammoth 4-3 and the Ottawa Senators 6-1.
Jake Oettinger should get the starting call for Dallas. Another shutout might be too much for Oettinger, and the Sharks certainly have offensive weapons to hurt Dallas and add to the scoreboard. Hereof, I will go with the over. I think we should see at least six in this game. Four of the last five encounters between San Jose and Dallas have produced at least seven goals in total.
