Toronto hopes offense turns season around

The Maple Leafs are having a rough season and hope their offense turns things around as they are averaging 3.45 goals per game with 11 goals in their last three games. Matthew Knies, John Tavares, and William Nylander have scored 13 goals and 30 assists to lead the top two lines, but the rest of the offense has also been great. Auston Matthews, Matias Maccelli, and Max Domi have combined for 10 goals and six assists, while defensemen Morgan Rielly and Oliver Ekman-Larsson have added three goals and 10 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.82 goals per game. Rielly and Ekman-Larsson have led the top two pairings but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Anthony Stolarz has struggled with a .886 save percentage and a 3.27 goals-against average on 229 shots with -1.9 goals saved above average.

Flyers are led by a great defense

The Flyers are having a great season despite their offense struggling and scoring only 2.80 goals per game. Trevor Zegras, Bobby Brink, and Noah Cates have combined for 10 goals and 16 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six skaters have three goals or more, and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense is one of the best in the NHL, allowing only 2.40 goals per game, with only three goals in the last two games. Travis Sanheim and Nick Seeler have combined for 1.7 defensive point shares, while Jamie Drysdale and Cam York have added depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Dan Vladar has stepped up with a .939 save percentage and a 1.67 goals-against average on 165 shots with 7.3 goals saved above average.

C Sean Couturer is questionable. G Samuel Ersson (lower body) is on the IR.

Maple Leafs vs Flyers Pick

Money Line Pick For Maple Leafs vs Flyers

  • Maple Leafs (-125) (4 units)

The Flyers have won three games in a row and look to take this one on their home ice. However, the Maple Leafs look to bounce back from a rough loss and take over this game from the first period. The Maple Leafs, who average 3.45 goals per game, should create plenty of scoring chances with William Nylander, John Tavares, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with quick passes. The Maple Leafs should limit a Flyers offense that is averaging only 2.80 goals per game, with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Morgan Rielly, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Anthony Stolarz to make plenty of big saves. The Maple Leafs should win the game with a strong performance on the road.

Take the Maple Leafs money line as road Favorites.

Over/Under Pick For Maple Leafs vs Flyers

  • Over 6 (5 Units)

The Flyers are led by their defense but the Maple Leafs have been great offensively, and this game looks to be a high-scoring one from the opening puck drop. The Flyers should create plenty of scoring chances against the Maple Leafs, who allow 3.82 goals per game, with Trevor Zegras, Noah Cates, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone while creating open shots with effective puck movement. The Maple Leafs, who have scored 11 goals in their last three games, should run up the score with William Nylander, Matthew Knies, John Tavares, and the rest of the forward unit establishing a strong offensive zone presence while creating open shots with effective puck movement as Morgan Rielly and Oliver Ekman-Larsson fire shots on the net from the blue line. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 6 goals.

The Maple Leafs face the Flyers with both teams looking to improve in the Eastern Conference.
