The Mammoth are slowing down
The Utah Mammoth have only won two of their previous eight games overall. Those two wins have come against the Buffalo Sabres, 2-1 in overtime and 5-2, and the Sabres are dead last in the Eastern Conference.
During that stretch, Utah has allowed 31 goals while scoring 21 goals in return. The Mammoth are coming off Friday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. They blew a 2-1 lead, playing as firm -215 home favorites.
Utah tallies 3.22 goals per game (tied for 13th in the NHL) and surrenders 3.06 goals in return (17th). Centers Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller lead the way, combining for 17 goals and 22 assists this season.
The Mammoth will take on Anaheim on the first day of a back-to-back set. They will visit San Jose on Tuesday, so Karel Vejmelka is expected to patrol the crease against the Ducks. Vejmelka is 8-4-1 with a 2.84 GAA and a .883 save percentage, while Vitek Vanecek is 2-3-0 with a 2.85 GAA and a .875 SV%.

The Ducks hope to avoid the fourth straight L
The Anaheim Ducks put an end to their seven-game winning streak last Tuesday, suffering a 4-1 defeat at the mighty Colorado Avalanche. Since then, the Ducks have dropped consecutive road games against the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 and the Minnesota Wild 2-0.
Last Saturday, the Ducks failed to score for the first time this season. They took 28 shots toward Minnesota’s net while going 0-for-2 with the man advantage. The Ducks killed all seven of Minnesota’s power-play opportunities, and Petr Mrazek gave up just one goal on 29 shots.
Mrazek is now 3-1-0 with a 3.72 GAA and a .887 save percentage in 2025-26. Lukas Dostal is expected to return to the crease on Monday, and the 25-year-old netminder carries an 8-5-1 record with a 2.86 GAA and a .903 save percentage.
The Ducks allow 3.22 goals per game (21st in the NHL) and score 3.67 goals in return (tied for 2nd). Center Leo Carlsson leads the charge with 11 goals and 15 assists, while winger Cutter Gauthier has recorded 12 goals and nine assists. Centers Mikael Granlund (G3, A6) and Ryan Poehling (G1, A5) are both questionable for Monday’s game against Utah.

Mammoth vs. Ducks Pick
Moneyline Pick for Mammoth vs. Ducks
- Anaheim Ducks (5 units)
This game will be a joy to watch and could easily go either way. Both teams have slowed down after a strong start to the season. The Ducks look like a better offensive team than Utah, but Anaheim’s defense hasn’t impressed so far this season.
Utah’s defense has struggled over the last couple of weeks, so I’m going with Anaheim. The Ducks just failed to score for the first time in 2025-26, and they will be fired up to bounce back in front of the home fans. Anaheim has scored a staggering 20 goals over its previous four outings at Honda Center.
Over/Under Pick for Mammoth vs. Ducks
- Over 6.5 (5 units)
The bookies expect a high-scoring affair. I can only look at the over, given the way these two teams have been performing lately. Like I said, Utah’s defense has slowed down (4-1 O/U in the last five games), and Anaheim heavily leans on its offense.
The Mammoth will need a strong performance from Karel Vejmelka, who’s allowed 11 goals over his last three starts. On the other side, Lukas Dostal has given up at least three goals in four of his previous five starts. The Ducks are 31st in the NHL in expected goals against at even strength.
