The Utah Mammoth (8-2, 7-3 PL, 4-6 O/U) meet the Edmonton Oilers (4-4-1-1, 2-8 PL, 4-5-1 O/U) in a conference meeting on Tuesday evening. The Mammoth posted a road win against the Jets on Sunday. The Oilers dropped a road meeting against the Canucks in their previous action. The Oilers went 3-0 against the Mammoth last season.

Can the Mammoth extend their winning streak on Tuesday evening? Check out the Mammoth vs. Oilers prediction.Β  Nobody does it better when it comes to NHL Picks!

Utah Mammoth Extend Winning Streak

The Utah Mammoth are at the end of a daunting road trek.Β  Utah is having an encouraging October. This is a younger team that many expected could be a breakout team, and so far, they are exceeding expectations. They were 1-2 after three games and have been dominant since, winning seven straight games. They posted a 6-2 win against the Wild on Saturday and a 3-2 road win against the Jets on Sunday.

Nick Schmaltz is piling on the points. The 29-year-old center has nine points in his past five games and is up to 16 points on the year. He has earned at least one point in all but one game. Clayton Keller has been a threat. The veteran center has seven points in his past five games. He was pointless in the win on Sunday and has amassed 12 points on the season. He did not record a point in two games against the Oilers last season.

Dylan Guenther had the best year of his career last season and has been a threat, scoring five goals and 11 points. JJ Peterka, who was acquired in the offseason, has been strong, reporting nine points. Michael Sergachev is steady on defense. The veteran has amassed eight points and a +5 rating. He logs a ton of ice, averaging 25 minutes per game.

The Mammoth are receiving outstanding goaltending. Karel Vejmelka has seen most of the action, posting a 2.43 GAA and a .905 save %, accompanied by a 6-1 record. Vitek Vanecek was in the net on Sunday. He has a 2.01 GAA and a strong .913 save % in three games.

Utah is averaging 3.8 goals per game, ranking them second. The Mammoth are conceding an average of 2.4 goals, good for seventh.

Oilers Begin Homestand on Tuesday

The Edmonton Oilers are attempting to climb above the .500 mark in this one. Edmonton is having a bit of a shaky start, but it's no cause for concern so early in the season. They are considered the team to beat in the conference. Edmonton posted a wild 6-5 home win against Montreal last week. They followed with a narrow road defeat against the Kraken on Saturday. The busy schedule continued in a 4-3 overtime road defeat by the Canucks on Sunday.

Connor McDavid has been kept in check when it comes to scoring goals, netting just one goal on the season, but has added 11 assists. He had one point in the defeat on Sunday.Β  The 28-year-old star signed a contract extension earlier this month. He was dominant against the Mammoth last year, posting two goals and five assists.

Leon Draisaitl is always a candidate to reach 100 points. The star center has been dangerous, posting seven goals and four assists on the season. He scored two markers in the win on Monday. Zach Hyman remains out with an injury and could be back in a few weeks. David Tomasek is a rookie getting ice time. He has managed three points.

Darnell Nurse is having a shaky season. The veteran defenseman gets a ton of ice, playing 21 minutes per game. He has five points and a -2 rating. Jake Walman has a new contract and is a key player on the blue line. Walman has three points and a +2 rating.

The Oilers have inconsistent goaltending. Stuart Skinner has been steady, sporting a 2.31 GAA and a .903 save %, accompanied by a 2-3-1 record. He was not in the net on Sunday. Backup Calvin Pickard has issued a poor 3.50 GAA in four games.

Edmonton is averaging 2.9 goals per game, ranking them 20th. The Oilers are conceding an average of 3.0 goals, placing them 16th.

Mammoth vs. Oilers Pick

Spread Pick for Mammoth vs. Oilers

  • Edmonton Oilers -152 (5 units)

The Utah Mammoth are hot but are at the end of a challenging road trek, which is always a daunting game to win. They have been on the road for nearly a week. The Edmonton Oilers have yet to find a groove, but they have been on the road for most of the season. They have only played three home games. The Oilers have won two straight home games.

Furthermore, Utah has an xGA/60 minutes of 3.33 goals per game, which is below average. This suggests they are not as strong as the defensive numbers indicate. Also, Edmonton dominated Utah last season, winning all three meetings, outscoring them by a wide 15-5 margin. It’s been a rather easy schedule, as five of Utah's past nine games have been against a team that did not make the playoffs last year. Go with the Oilers.

Over/Under Pick for Mammoth vs. Oilers

  • Over 6 (5 units)

I expect a shootout. Utah is consistently posting big numbers. They have scored 23 goals in their past five games. They have an xGf/60 minutes of 3.67 goals, which is fifth in the NHL. The Oilers have squandered 23 goals in their past five games.

In addition, Edmonton has posted an xGF/60 minutes of 3.2 goals, which is above their season average. They have scored 11 goals in their past three games. Also, the Mammoth PK is subpar, ranking 19th in the NHL. The Oilers have an elite power play that ranks fifth at a 29.6 % efficiency. The over is a convincing 5-1 in their past six home games.
