Mammoth Seeking Seventh Straight Win

Utah ran their win streak to six games as they dropped the hammer on Minnesota on the road Saturday in their previous contest. The Mammoth improved to 7-2-0 on the season and stood atop the Central Division, one point ahead of the Avalanche for the top spot in the division. Utah is 5th in the league in goals per game as they average 3.78 goals a night this season. The Hockey Club is 8th in goals against as they allow an average of 2.44 goals per game on the year. Utah is tied for 13th in the league in power play success as they convert 21.9% of their chances with the man advantage this season. Against Minnesota, Utah jumped in front early and controlled the game from there en route to the victory. Winnipeg won for the sixth time in seven games as they took down Calgary in their previous contest at home Friday night. The Jets improved to 6-2-0 on the season and entered Saturday night third in the Central Division, two points behind Utah for the top spot. Winnipeg enters this one tied for 8th in the league in goals for as they average 3.50 goals a night. The Jets are tied for fourth in the league in goals against as they allow 2.38 goals per contest. Winnipeg is 8th in the league on the power play by cashing in on 25.8% of the chances with the man advantage this season. The Jets are tied for 1st in the league in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 94.1% of their shorthanded situations.

Against Calgary Friday night, Winnipeg bounced back from a shutout loss to Seattle as they doused the Flames en route to a win in their previous contest. The Jets were outshot 9-5 in the opening period and skated off trailing 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes of play. In the second period, Winnipeg owned a 16-9 shot edge and outscored Calgary 4-1 to take a 4-2 lead at the second intermission. Kyle Connor knotted the game with his fourth goal of the season at 5:19 off assists from Josh Morrissey and Dylan DeMelo. Jonathan Toews gave Winnipeg a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the year at 6:24 off an assist from Morrissey. Gabriel Vilardi made it a 3-1 game with his first goal of the season, on the power play, at 9:50, with assists going to Mark Scheifele and Morrissey. After the Flames cut the margin to a goal, Alex Iafallo restored Winnipeg’s two-goal advantage with his second goal of the year, on the power play, at 18:50 with assists going to Vilardi and Scheifele. In the third period, the Jets were outshot 15-11 with both teams scoring once, leaving them ahead at the end of regulation for the win. After giving up a goal to trim the lead to one, Vladislav Namestnikov closed the scoring with an empty net goal, his third of the year, at 19:52 off an assist from Logan Stanley.
