Vegas Golden Knights vs. Edmonton Oilers Picks and Prediction for Sunday, December 21, 2025
Use Code WWWC Vegas Golden Knights (16-6-10) vs. Edmonton Oilers (17-12-6)
The Vegas Golden Knights head to Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB, on Sunday night to face off against the Edmonton Oilers in the Pacific Division showdown with the puck drop at 8:00 PM ET, and we’ve got you covered with our Golden Knights vs. Oilers prediction.
Vegas meets Edmonton for the first time this season. It’s a rematch of the 2025 Stanley Cup Western Conference Second Round, where the Oilers eliminated the Golden Knights in five games. Vegas has only won one of its previous seven encounters with Edmonton.
Let’s take a closer look at this Golden Knights vs. Oilers prediction, one of our NHL picks for Sunday’s nine-game slate. Saturday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and both Vegas and Edmonton took the ice on Saturday.
The Golden Knights are playing well in December
The Vegas Golden Knights visited the lowly Calgary Flames on Saturday night, looking to bounce back from a 2-1 shootout defeat against the New Jersey Devils. Last Wednesday, Vegas outshot New Jersey 37-33 at home, but the Golden Knights had to settle down for a point.

The Golden Knights have won six of their previous eight games overall. Interestingly, five of those eight contests have gone past regulation (6-1-1 record). No team has dropped more games in overtime or a shootout than Vegas.
Akira Schmid was confirmed for Saturday’s clash against Calgary, so Carter Hart will patrol the crease Sunday against Edmonton. Hart is 3-0-2 with a sharp 2.27 GAA and a .917 save percentage this season. He posted 32 saves against New Jersey last Wednesday.
The Golden Knights allow 2.75 goals per game (9th in the NHL) and score 3.00 goals in return (18th). Center Jack Eichel leads the way with 12 goals and 29 assists, while winger Mitch Marner has recorded six goals and 26 assists this season.
The Oilers are having a nice December too
The Edmonton Oilers visited the Minnesota Wild on Saturday afternoon, searching for their third straight victory. In their previous two outings, the Oilers have beaten the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-4 and the Boston Bruins 3-1 on the road.
Edmonton has gone 6-1-1 in its last eight games, too, but just one of those eight contests has gone past regulation. On December 9, the Oilers suffered a 4-3 overtime defeat against the Buffalo Sabres at Rogers Place.
Calvin Pickard was confirmed for Saturday’s game against Minnesota. Tristan Jarry is on the IR, so Connor Ingram should make his season debut on Sunday night. Across 11 appearances in the AHL this season, Ingram has gone 4-5-2 with a hideous 4.04 GAA and a .856 save percentage.
The Oilers surrender 3.34 goals per game (tied for 25th in the NHL) and score 3.40 goals in return (4th). Connor McDavid has already amassed 21 goals and 37 assists, while Leon Draisaitl has accounted for 17 goals and 31 helpers.
Golden Knights vs. Oilers Pick
Moneyline Pick for Golden Knights vs. Oilers
- Vegas Golden Knights (5 units)
The Oilers open as -166 moneyline favorites. Given their goaltending situation, there’s no way I’m going to take the Oilers in this game. Even if the Oilers decide to start Calvin Pickard on the second day of a back-to-back, I would take the Golden Knights at plus money.
Pickard was 3-4-2 with an ugly 3.91 GAA and a .858 save percentage on Saturday. Connor Ingram has struggled a lot in the AHL, so I cannot trust the Oilers’ defense. Carter Hart has been solid for the Golden Knights thus far, and Vegas certainly has weapons to hurt the Oilers’ shaky defense.
The Golden Knights are pretty much healthy, whereas the Oilers have injury worries. Defenseman Jake Walman (G3, A7) and center Jack Roslovic (G10, A8) are both on the IR, while defenseman Alec Regula (A2) is listed as questionable.
Over/Under Pick for Golden Knights vs. Oilers
- Over 5.5 (5 units)
As I already said, I don’t trust the Oilers’ defense. Edmonton is 22nd in the NHL in penalty killing (79.0%), and whoever gets the starting call in the crease will have a tall task to keep the Golden Knights off the scoreboard.
The Oilers lean on their prolific offense. They can score a few goals against any team in the league, and the Oilers boast the second-best power-play percentage in the league (31.9%). Hereof, give me the over on the total. Vegas is seventh in power-play percentage (24.7%) and eighth in penalty killing (82.9%).
